Accuvision Solihull were absolutely outstanding. About me: age 37, long sight (+3.75 and +4.25) with astigmatism and right sided squint (correctable by glasses/lenses). Glasses since age of 3 and contacts/glasses since late teens. Major problems over past 2 yrs with eye allergies and eczema-type skin, often sore and angry underneath eyes. Unable to wear contact lenses over recent months and hated thickness of glasses (which revealed squint as soon as I took them off). Nick Dash and team at Accuvision Solihull were amazing. Could not be faulted; totally professional, dedicated and reassuring. My concerns were that i would not be a candidate due to prescription, squint and allergy problems. Thorough pre-op testing for suitability showed slightly thinner than average corneas, but ok to go ahead. Told squint would be correctable with lasik, as it is corrected by contact lenses (had not realised this). I was nervous regarding the outcome, but now 3 weeks later my vision is better than 20/20! I do not need specs or lenses for anything at all! Squint has been corrected – which is just AMAZINGLY liberating and confidence-enhancing. All of my allergies have now gone; we think the contact lenses & solutions had been causing them. I am overjoyed and can’t sum it up in words. I have already referred 7 people (2 of whom have already had it done and are as delighted with their outcomes as I am). If you need reassurance, do what i did: Check out the patient testimonials and google ‘Nick Dash’. He did all my suitability tests and has played a part in restoring the vision of lots of leading sports people. Surgeons were Mr Jindal and Darius (whose surname begins with P and I can’t remember!) who had superb bedside manner and reassured me the whole way through the procedure. I feel it was well worth the money for the benefits and massive improvement in my quality of life. With the squint problem, I feel as though I have had two ops for the price of one. Fab!

I went to most of the clinics in Birmingham/Solihull and decided to go with Accuvision at Solihull, I chose them becuase they gave me by far the better advice during the test clinics that I attended. More importantly they did’nt oversell what they were offering (no short skirted ladies!). The other three clinics I attended were very focused on getting my business/money rather than treating me as a perspective patient. I felt no pressure at Accuvision to sign up to treatment. (I’m still getting calls and emails from one company even after I have told them I have had my eyes treated elsewhere) So Accuvison for pre op care was by miles the best. The operation was painless and over remarkable quickley with no fuss and the surgeon and team were top drawer. Some minor discumfort for a few days post op but hey thats minor stuff. Honestly not painful at all. The results have been fantastic – cant understand why I have not had the treatment years ago (I’m 56 and wearing glasses since 40yo). I play a lot of cricket and post op I’m really amazed how clear everything now looks when I play – My batting is marginally better!. But its all I could have expected. Yes my reading is now worse but I was pre-warned, but its a price I happy to pay given the overwhelming vision I now have. So Accuvison is the place to go – top drawer staff and treatment. Post op care marvellous and not rushed. Get your eyes done now you will not be disapointed and there is NO PAIN !! Alan

Before I had my laser eye surgery on March 11 2008, I was -9.50 in my left eye and -9.25 in my right eye, and had worn glasses since I was 4 years old and contact lenses since I was 14. I am now 38. Basically, this meant that the furthest I was able to see clearly was reading ‘smoking kills’ on a cigarette packet held 18 cms away!

My partner had had the surgery 2 years ago and her dad in November 2007 at Accuvision, both experiencing excellent vision. My sister had PK about 10 years ago, but not with Accuvision – also with no problems.

I was at a point where I had lost confidence in my optician with their prices increasing dramatically and mistakes being made in my tests. I was sick of being blind and wasting time dealing with my contact lenses. The prescription I brought with me to the consultation was -8.75 and -8.25 and I was shocked to find out that I was much more short-sighted than that. I had been functioning with the completely wrong prescription! I was anxious at the consultation due to my high prescription and had read that Accuvision turn many people away. I was desperate to have lasik surgery.

Vik was very friendly, made me feel comfortable and explained everything to me in laymans terms so I understood what to expect. I had numerous tests, but because of my high prescription was advised that I would need to have a thin cornea cut for both safety reasons and to get the maximum vision possible. Vik advised me that I didn’t have to have surgery if I didn’t want but if I did I might not receive 20/20 vision, possibly -1, and that there would be delayed healing. However, I had already made my mind up that I wanted surgery and was booked for 11 March 1pm. Despite the fact that I had been previously counting off the weeks, I had felt increasingly anxious, particularly about the 4 page document that I needed to sign which outlined the possible dangers! Despite being a contact lens wearer, I’m not one who really enjoys discussing the anatomy of eyes, let alone have anyone touch them, so even reading the paperwork made me feel queasy! After numerous attempts to get to the end of the document without crying out ‘urgh that’s disgusting!’, I actually managed to treat it in a business -like manner and sign it. You can imagine the trauma I felt, then, on arriving at the clinic the day of the operation! Even 10 minutes before the operation I was wondering if I could dash out unnoticed! I couldn’t believe my partner (posing as my entourage for the day) was calmly reading a magazine!

Anyway, the time came and my surgeon introduced himself to me. He was so lovely and reassuring and gave me a hug. I remember having final eye checks and then putting on covers for both my head and feet and being brought into the room. Vik encouraged me saying ‘this is where the party starts’ which made me laugh! The nurse asked me to take off my glasses and lie down (obviously I couldn’t see the couch anymore!) The procedure was so quick – I wasn’t even in the room 20 minutes! The right eye was done first – the advantage of having such bad eyesight is that I couldn’t see most of what was happening! The important matter though was that I didn’t feel A THING! Two different drops were put in my eye and then my eye was held open by (I’ll call it a clamp for want of a better word). I just felt a bit of a pressure for this – that’s all – no pain. Before I knew it, a corneal flap was made which I didn’t really see, let alone feel. I was told to focus on the ‘green light’. It sounds silly, but the hardest part of the operation was focussing on the green light! If I had to pick the worst part, it was trying to concentrate on this! For what must have been milliseconds, my eye felt like it was shutting and everything went black. I thought ‘oh no! How embarrassing!I pick my moments to fall asleep! I really wish I’d got more sleep last night!’ Luckily I hadn’t fallen asleep, and the green light was suddenly in focus.

There seemed to be a square of red dots around the green light and before I could concentrate on what was happening, the flap was replaced (this was like wearing goggles with water on them in a pool). It seemed like the flap was rolled on with a roller, then there were bright lights, my eye was washed, and the clamp was removed. I was shocked that I could clearly focus on everything – even at this point. I then thought ‘one down, and this is the last one!’ The left eye seemed to take far longer – possibly because I then knew what to expect and was also trying to ‘watch’ and take in everything so that I could explain it to others. I remember bright white lights on this laser and the hot feeling of the laser (not on my eye but around my face) – but nothing that felt burning or painful.

It was then over! I can honestly say, it has taken me longer to describe the operation than the actual event. I sat up and remember everything being misty and milky and I had a bit of double vision (like the world was vibrating) but I could actually see. I sat in the waiting room with my partner for 10 minutes and then had a final check up before going home. Vik advised me that I should come for a check up the next day, but they would leave in the ‘bandage contact lenses’ for a few more days because of the thin cornea and give my eye more time to heal.

I was given lots of eye drops to be inserted every hour with the help of my ‘entourage’ (partner) and advised to rest for the remainder of the day with my eyes shut. Needless to say, I made the most of my position waltzing out like J-Lo, sunglasses and entourage in tow – and spending the rest of the day drinking cups of tea on demand!

Although I was advised that the next few hours would feel uncomfortable, I must say that I didn’t feel anything at all. What is even better, on my 4 week check up my eyes were tested and were -0.25 in each eye! I have now booked a holiday to Florida and am looking forward to diving – something I wasn’t able to do properly before. There are times when I forget I had surgery and still think that I need to take out my contact lenses! What remains to be said is that I fully recommend this surgery and Accuvision, particularly if you have a high prescription like mine (and enjoy being waited upon by your partner!)

If you want confidence you’re in good hands – you’ve arrived at the right place. Being told by Optical Express I was unsuitable for laser eye surgery due to my high 4+ prescription coupled with astigmatisms I was advised to seek intraocular lenses from their Harley St consultant costing around £4.5k!

Thank goodness a mutual friend put me in touch with the AccuVision web site which restored hope I may be suitable for laser treatment after all. A detailed consultation with Joan followed where she spent the time I needed to understand my prescription and clearly explained the laser procedures. The risks of any eye surgery obviously need to be considered carefully after some informed explanation. The operation itself was over in minutes thanks to the expertise of Chad, Anthony, Vic and not forgetting Matron! The results initially encouraged me but after 4 days my sight varied from reading to distance and I wondered if I’d made a mistake. However after some reassurance from Vic that fluctuations in each eye were only to be expected and quite normal I’m pleased to report my sight is now settled down nicely to 20/20

Thank you all – John

I have to say this site gave a massive amount of confidence and some expectations as to Accuvision. Thank you for everyone who posted. Let me say that they did not disappoint one bit.

From the initial consult with Vic, he made me relaxed, took his time, and answered any questions competently.

The actual procedure day itself was so professional, my mate who was in the waiting room said I was just 10 minutes and this included a chat with the surgeon, this is great for anyone who thinks you’ll be ‘under the knife’ for a long time. This is not to say it was rushed, from the nurse who puts the first drops in the eye to the bandage contact lens going on, it was clock work, I am sure they know how nervous you are and want to do the procedure efficiently as possible. You can talk to them at any time.

The experience, was bizarre and intense, but breathe easily, relax, and you will be fine. No pain whatsoever.

Four days later my eyes are just like I have my contacts in and getting slightly clearer each day. There are some ‘fogging’ at night but nothing serious and I am told it will pass with time. I am going for my second check up next week and I reckon I’m easily 20/20 if not slightly better.

The after appointment would have been with Vic as well but he’s away on holiday but Joan was equally friendly and confident.

I had a consultation at another clinic in Guildford, all I can say is that I felt a little bit on a conveyor belt and they upsold me to the hilt, walking away with a quote for £4200. My experience with Accuvision was very different.

My fee was £850 an eye, but a £10 charge for amex and £50 for admin charge of the 10 months 0% interest, hence I have put £1760. Still a very good price for Wavefront Lasik, with an excellent clinic.

I’m not on comission but I am definately recommending this to you and to all my friends with glasses or contacts!

I had both eyes laser treated six weeks ago and am absolutely delighted with the results. I found the whole procedure fascinating and it’s great to be able to live without my old glasses and contact lenses – to see clearly as soon as I wake up in the morning and also have the ability to see what’s going on around me when I go swimming. The staff at the Fulham clinic were friendly yet professional and put me at ease at all times; and the really clever thing is that they were able to keep some of my short-sightedness in one eye so that I can read without the need for reading glasses, at least until I get a bit older. If you’re contemplating having this treatment, then think no more – just do it!

I had my ‘operation’ only two weeks ago and haven’t looked back. I picked Accuvision because two of my friends recommended them. I had a consultation with them and with Optical Express who advertise at £350 per eye. Actually the quote from Optical Express for the same treatment I had at Accuvision was over £3000!

Accuvision were great. The ‘operation’ was painless and quick, the worst part was the all in the mind. I was a wimp but the surgeon explained everything he was doing and the nurse held my hand. It was over before I could blink an eye – literally. The same evening I had the ‘op’ – I was in my local pub telling everyone how fantastic it was, I could see really well – no problem.

I was short sighted by -5.25 in one eye and -6 in the other. I had also needed to wear reading glasses over the last two years because of my age (I am 53). The surgeon corrected by eyesight in one eye for perfect long sight and compensated the other eye so that I don’t need to use reading glasses unless the light is bad or the print is very tiny.

So for anyone out there who is dithering about taking the risk – GO FOR IT. you are worth it! I did.

Forget about the rest go to the best for outstanding results like mine.I was diagnosed with Kerataconus in both eyes that no other surgery could treat apart from Accuvision who used a complex C3R cross-linking procedure to reinforce the cornea for long term safety which was totally pain free, and surgeons talk to you and put you at total ease. I no longer need glasses anymore , i wish i had done it sooner its just been totally amazing and can,t thank all the staff at accuvision for being so professional, compassionate and caring.
