I’m booked in for Wavefront Lasik with Accuvision next Tuesday. I just have a couple of last-minute questions – can anyone help?

– Has anyone consulted their GP regarding the prospect of having Lasik? If so, what was their reaction?

– As your eysight can change during pregnancy, is this known to have caused any problems (need for more surgery a few years down the line?) Not relevant for me yet, but who knows?!

It’s now nearly 18 months since my LASIK surgery at Accuvision. I can truely say that I’ve forgotten what it’s like to be short-sighted,(I take it for granted that I can now see so well without glasses/contacts all the time).
There was an initial period of ‘settling in’ after surgery, and I opted for what they call monovision, where one eye is left a little undercorrected to avoid needing glasses for near vision as you get older.
I cannot thank the team at Accuvision enough, all so professional, knowledgable and courteous throughout. You pay for what you get, cutting edge technology and a brilliant result.

I had AccuWave Lasik treatment at Accuvision yesterday, pre-op my eyes were +4.50 right/+5.5 left eye, and opted for a monovision result as I did not wish to wear glasses even for reading! Despite being told of the greater risks, etc., I decided to go ahead and I am very pleased I did! The operation itself was painless and not nearly as traumatic and frightening as I envisioned, the supporting staff and surgeons were very helpful and considerate. Afterwards my vision was slightly blurry but cleared gradually throughout the evening, I followed instructions keeping my eyes shut most of the time after the op and sunglasses on until I went to bed, putting in the antibiotic drops hourly as prescribed until I went to sleep and the eye shields on when I was asleep. On waking this morning the minor scratchiness had disappeared and I could see clearly and read even small print with no problems. On examination this morning at Accuvision I was told that the corneal flaps had sealed and the results were good achieving
-050×160 right distance and -050×180 left near – 20/20 vision.
I was also informed that this may fluctuate over the next 3/4 months, but so far so good and excellent as far as I am concerned.

I had laser surgery yesterday (17th March) and I must say, so far, so good. Whilst having your eyes clamped open obviously isn’t enjoyable, I found the whole experience to be surreal rather than painful. In a way, it’s a bit like a bungy jump – you have make a leap of faith in order to go ahead and put your life in someone else’s hands in order to make get through it all.

The whole thing was very quick, the actual procedure only took about 20 minutes. The staff were all good, the nurse was reassuring and told me what to expect (minus the gory details), the surgeon took time to make sure all my questions are answered beforehand and I was sure I wanted to go ahead (in fact I felt like I was convincing him).

I found out at my check up today that I have 20:20 vision. My eyesight is a little hazy, but that is to be expected and having spoken with/emailed several people, this is normal and my eyesight is expected to improve.

I found the diary of Steve Mercer (see ‘links’ above) very helpful and feel he has described the process well (but not for the squeamish).

Together with getting married and travelling around the world, this is the BEST THING I EVER DID. No regrets, it’s miraculous.

2 years ago I was refused treatment at Optimax due to my astigmatism. After receiving a recommendation for Accuvusion, I booked in for a free consultation and was informed that my 3.25 / 3.50 impaired dvision could be corrected, as well as my severe astigmatism. I haven’t looked back since.

Accuvision have been absolutely fantastic from day one. I had a thorough examination with Vik who immediately made me feel comfortable and relaxed. There are no secrets at Accuvision. They tell you the whole story – details of the intricate procedure, the advanced wavefront technology they use which is currently unrivalled in the UK, potential side effects.
I was initially advised that there was a chance I may need very weak glasses for driving (not a problem I said), I was also informed they may not be able to fully correct the astigmatism in both my eyes first time around. This is an example of Accuvision’s honesty. They painted me a picture of the worst case scenario, which in either situation I was happy with. But unsurprisingly, neither of these issues occurred. I am now on my 3rd week post-surgery and my vision is perfect. It’s been perfect for 2 weeks now. Amazing.

Believe me they ARE right. The surgery does not hurt. I promise. It was a huge comfort to be able to hold the nurse’s hand, just for a bit of reassurance as you are fully awake during the procedure. You are aware of what is happening, as the procedure is explained to you many times beforehand.
After surgery you are told to rest your eyes as much as possible – listening to the soaps on TV is no problem! Next day I felt no grittiness, just felt like I’d been punched in each eye. You administer eye drops several times a day during the following week and you are told your vision may fluctuate.

My only symptoms were my eyes felt tired at the end of each day (this only lasted 1 week) and they were sensitive to bright artificial light (this has reduced in time – only brightness now is some car headlights).
I have had my 1 week checkup and my vision is close to 20/20 in left eye and better than 20/20 in right eye. I am absolutely delighted. It’s hard to believe it’s true. Waking up in the morning has taken on a new dimension now that I can see, I no longer watch TV in bed with my specs on! and I can’t wait to go on holiday and be able to see my surroundings when I’m in the swimming pool! AMAZING.

One of the very special things about Accuvision is the people who work there. That’s one of the things that makes Accuvision stand out from the rest. Their honesty and integrity is second to none and you are made to feel special and important on every visit. They have all the time in the world for you, no matter how many questions you have or how many times they’ve heard those questions before! I called Mike (the practice manager) twice after booking surgery with questions and we were on the phone for 25 minutes. No problem, they are dedicated to their patients.
Hugest thanks to Mike who was absolute star throughout and Vik the opthamologist and to Darius who’s thoroughness and expertise has resulted in a truly professional, dedicated and caring environment and of course to Mr Rostrum who performed my surgery (though you don’t really get to talk to the surgeon much). THANK YOU. It’s a whole new world when suddenly you’re no longer short-sighted.

If anyone would like more detail, no problem, please mail me: helenlcollins@hotmail.com

My mum was short-sighted and also had to wear reading glasses and she had surgery on the same day as me. They corrected her long-distance vision in one eye and short distance vision in the other eye (monovision) and she also has had no problems and has close to 20/20 vision.

I had my surgery on 3rd of July which was excellent and definitely not worth worrying about for as long as I did. I was -3.75 in both eyes, which became 20/20 in my right eye and just under in my left after only 7 days. Everything about your eyes continuing to heal is true, as mine feel better (albeit slightly – don’t expect massive change on a daily basis) every day. The best thing is the fact that the op really is painless. The only thing I felt would be best described as mild discomfort when the clamps were put on my eyes. The actual surgical stuff (cutting, laser etc) was absolutely painless. having a filling is 100 times as painful..easily. I recommend Accuvision to everyone because they are excellent. Everyone from Vik who did my initial consultation to Darius (who is excellent at making you feel relaxed, especially when you are lying on the laser bed worrying to yourself). Thanks also to Mike who reassured me brilliantly on the phone as well as immediately post op, and to Joan for further excellent post op care and 1 week check up. I am about to book my next check up (1 month) so I post again with any relevant changes.
Basically Accuvision are as good as you are going to get. Read about every clinic on this website, then see the cases that Accuvision treat that others don’t.
Yes, I would do it again, and yes Accuvision were brilliant for me.

I had a consultation with Vik at Accuvision in March and am considering having LASIK in July or August. I have – 6 in both eyes with slight astigmatism, however my pupils when dilated are 7.5mm and 8.5mm.

I would be interested in hearing from anyone who has undergone LASIK (either successfully or unsuccessfully) with a pupil size of over 8mm.

I am confident that the service offered by Accuvision is one of the best in the industry, but before biting the bullet would find it helpful to hear from others who have undergone the proceedure with similar prescription and pupil size!

I have been looking into Laser Surgery for a couple of years. I finally plucked up courage and went to consultation. The consultation process was extremely thorough and all questions were well answered.
A week later I found myself about to enter surgery. The procedure itslef is absolutely nothing to worry about. I felt slight pressure to my eyes and that was all. No pain. All staff kept me informed throughout and the procedure was over before I knew it. I walked into the waiting area able to see my Dad at the other end of the room unaided by specs. Absolutely fantastic.

My prescription was -3.50 and -3.75 inclusive of astigmatism. I am now six weeks post op and I have better than 20:20 vision with a slight astigmatism of -0.25 in my left eye. I’ve been told by Mike that this will get better with healing. I have no reason to disbelieve him or Accuvision as everything they have told me has turned out to be true.

I experienced a slower return to excellent vision than other people it would seem. This may have someting to do with the wearing of bandage lenses for 24hrs after but is more likely to be just the rate at which my eyes heal ! Everyone is different. I have gone through moments of concern and uneasiness after the surgery but my concerns were always answered informatively by Accuvision at all times. Your vision does fluctuate and you may have moments of panis where you think ‘My God why did I do this’ but be patient as the results are astounding and to be free of vision aids is amazing

My eyes had a reaction to the artificial tears and so I heeded the advice in some of the comments before these and bought some Liquifilm tears without preservative. My eyes improved straight away.

I personally would like to thank all staff who have been excellent throughout but especially Joan, Vikash, Mike, Daryus and Chad. All have been brilliant and the aftercare fantastic.

I can’t recomment Accuvision enough and am busily passing on their details to a wealth or friends and colleagues. Thanks Accuvision.

I had wavefrontguided Lasik at Accuvision four days ago. I had a mild shortsightedness and astigmatism. I am, so far, very happy with the results. Vision in my left eye is very good; vision in my right eye is better than it was but I’m hoping it will improve.

I found the actual procedure extremely unpleasant and would not want to go through it again. Despite that the discomfort is short lived and I have no regrets. Post surgery I had no pain in one eye whilst the other was really quite sore with ‘shooting pains’. I wouldn’t really describe them as gritty, more prickly!

I found the team pleasant and professional. However I agree with the comments posted regarding the rude receptionist, her attitude prior to surgery nearly prevented my going there.

On the negative:
I would have welcomed a sedative/anxiolytic beforehand (Accuvision won’t let you have one).

I would also have welcomed somewhere a little more private/comfortable to recover for the hour afterwards. When the operation was finished I felt very emotional and stressed – sitting in a busy waiting room with my eyes shut was disorientating and distressing.

Overall I would go through it all again and would choose Accuvision.

what can I say? its truly is a miracle!!!! I’ve had bad eyesight for as long as I can remember. I never really thought id be able to see things so clearly without the aid of glasses or contact lenses ever again…….then I heard about the LASIK treatment and although I was a bit apprehensive at first, decided to go ahead with the treatment and it has been the best thing I have ever spent money on. I had the treatment done in August at about five in the evening. was no pain at all…..couldn’t believe it!!!!! I was in and out of the operating theatre in about fifteen minutes tops. by 8 o’clock that same evening I was watching who wants to be a millionaire with no difficulties in reading the questions on the screen. Unbelievable – but true. waking up the next morning was even more amazing. for the past god knows how many years the first thing I had to do in the morning was put my glasses on. but not any more!!!!! I was able to open my eyes and see everything – I never thought I would ever be able to do that again. it has been just over four months since I had the treatment and apart from a few problems with dry eye (which has now been resolved) I have had no trouble with my vision. I recommend this treatment to anyone who is thinking about having it done. Accuvision is a wonderful place with a calming atmosphere and great staff who are always at hand and looking after you. thank you once again to all the staff for giving me back my vision. it truly is a miracle.
