15 months post-op – I keep meaning to post comments on this site because I remember when I was investigating the surgery that I found it very frustrating that hardly anyone posts comments after a year or more after their surgery. The reason I haven’t done yet is that my vision is so good that I forget about all the frustrations I used to have with glasses and contact lenses. For a brief history of my prescription and operation see my posting of 27th Nov 2002 on page 10. Suffice it to say, I had very bad eyesight. I now have 20/20 vision using both eyes in good conditions. Night vision is fine. I notice a difference when I am very tired and in low light, but much better than it was with contact lenses when they would dry out. At first after the surgery I worried constantly about protecting my eyes and whether I had made the right decision or not. I now only worry occasionally and for the most part really enjoy having ‘normal’ vision. I know Accuvision are expensive and other clinics are hopefully catching up on the technology, but when I had my surgery done, they were the best. They don’t have a 100% success rate, but no surgery does. It is a decision that only the individual can make and it really is their responsibilty. My advise would be to wait as long as you can to have the surgery done as there are no long term examples of lasik surgery. If you feel you must have it done, do your eyes a favour and find the best clinic you can regardless of the money as you only have one pair of eyes, but you can buy another pair of glasses if they break. Don’t forget, I am very happy with my results, but I might not have been. Good luck. Please e-mail me with any questions.

I had Lasik surgery less than a week ago. My prescription was not so high, but I did have a uneven eye shape which meant that the flap had to be tailored for my eyes – something that wouldn’t have happened at another Eye Laser Clinic. It was quite a bit more expensive than other places, but in the end for me I felt that the money wasn’t the nearly as important as the safety and expertise of the latest technology. I am happy I did it. I can see clearly, although I am still technically in recovery and my eyes are still feeling a little irritated (I have never worn contact lenses, but this is what I imagine that to feel like). For the record: my eyes feel better in fresh air… And I think the drops might be contributing to the dry skin around my eyes. I will mention this at my week follow-up on Tuesday.

The procedure itself was amazing. Very sci-fi. Fascinating that the technology is here that corrects vision in under five minutes. Honestly, took no time at all, and although I was so nervous going in (no, I didn’t have the sedative) when it was complete, I was amazed that it was so easy, so painless, and so interesting. Like a laser light show. I have been talking about it to all of my spectacle wearing friends since and I think Accuvision will be meeting some of them soon!

If you want to know, the only downside was when I was looking into a mirror and saw clearly the details on my face…. Seems that my old frames used to hide my crows feet – not anymore. Oh, dear….

I am very glad I did it. I have and will continue to recommend Accuvision.

I had Lasik at Accuvision in January 2003, with a relatively high prescription of -6.75R and -5.25L. I had previously been to Boots who turned me down due to my high prescription and corneal thickness. I had seen on this web site the claim that Accuvision could treat people turned down by other clinics so I contacted them and was informed that they would be able to treat my prescription.

Due to my age, I was advised to have monovision (one eye slightly under-corrected) which would enable me to continue to read without the need for glasses as it seemed silly to replace one pair of glasses with another.

Accuvision were extremely professional throughout. Everything was fully explained and I went for my consultation having already sought out as much information as possible so I would know what to ask about. They were very patient and quite happy to answer my numerous questions.

On the day of treatment, I was like a nervous wreck and as the surgeon approached me I nearly took off out the door. The treatment itself was uncomfortable completely painless and having the benefit of not being able to see what was happening because of my short-sightedness was a bonus. Due to living 100 miles from London, I had to stay overnight in an hotel as I would need to be checked the next morning. I also chose an appointment late in the day so I could just return to the hotel and rest my eyes for the remainder of the day. My eyes felt gritty for a few hours, but by 9 o’clock this had passed. My husband had to administer the hourly eye drops, which was the only time I opened my eyes until the next morning. It was immediately struck by being able to see the clock when I woke up, something which I haven’t been able to do for a long time. However, I was unable to read, but it was early days and was told this could improve. The next day I was +0.5 in both eyes. When I returned for my monthly check up, this had reduced to +0.25 and, as there was a possibility that this would be the case, I was already booked in for an enhancement to be done on the same day. I must say I went in feeling rather blase about it all having already had the procedure once, but the downside was that I could see everything they were doing which was a bit daunting. Everything went well and the discomfort after was much less than the previous treatment due to only slight surgery. I still had to have an overnight stay so I could be checked the next morning. Anyway, the next day I had 20/20 in the right and -1 in the left which was the intended outcome so I can function without any need for glasses. I would point out that during the whole process I was meticulous about my eyes, ensuring nothing got into them and following the advice on eye drops, etc, to the letter. I even wore the eye covers overnight for an extra couple of nights as I was petrified about rubbing my eyes in my sleep.

A year later my eyes are stable and it still amazes me that this can be done at all, especially after 20 years of wearing contact lenses. It is brilliant to go on holiday and not to worry about falling asleep on the plane and getting lenses stuck to the eyes and not having to carry numerous of pairs of contact lenses with me. I can’t thank Accuvision enough. It was a bit of a pain having to keep travelling back and forward to London for the regular checks, but it was certainly worth doing and I would recommend Accuvision to anyone. Obviously there are risks, but you need to weigh up the pros and cons and I feel Accuvision are one of the leaders in the field.

I had my surgery at Accuvision on 17th May 2004, about two weeks after the consultant at Boots Laser Eye care said that I was not suitable for surgery due to the thickness of my corneas. When Boots calculated the remaining thickness as would be post op with them, it was 220 microns. The consultant also said in response to my questioning, that despite any future improvements in technology, I would never be a suitable candidate for Lasik laser eye surgery. I am delighted to say that I did not quit at this stage, but after further research visited Accuvision who were extremely helpful and professional in their approach. They demonstrated how they would be able to operate and leave 330 microns post op with them. This is exactly what they have done. I had my operation at 4.00pm and on my check up at 10.00 the next morning I had 20/20 vision in one eye and better than 20/20 in the other, and this is without Wavefront treatment. I would not hesitate to recommend Accuvision above all of the other laser eye surgeries I have spoken with, and this includes Moorfields. Thank you.

I had my surgery three weeks ago after what has amounted to a seven year deliberation. My prescription was -10 sph, -2.75 and -12 sph, -1.5 cyl so you could say I was more than a little short-sighted. I have worn glasses or contact lenses since I was seven years old. I am now 39. When I finally decided to go for an assessment, I chose Accuvision. I saw their ad in the newspaper and then checked out both their website and this website and felt comfortable that they were a good start to this quest. My expectations were split between being totally unsuitable and being suitable for a partial correction. So when I had my first appontment with Joan, who explained all the measurements, the safe thresholds that Accuvision worked within and that they could aim for total correction although the final outcome was dependent on the healing process, I became quite excited. A few days later, I booked myself in for the surgery.

The surgery itself, performed by Chad Rostron, went very well and my anxiety beforehand was well misplaced. After the surgery, I felt no pain and very little discomfort. At the one week assessment with Vikash, my right eye was 20/20 and my left was a little less which actually means I can see as good, if not better, now than I ever could with glasses or contact lenses.

I, personally cannot say that Accuvision are better than any other clinic because they are the only one I experienced. But the people are informative and friendly, their technology is well advanced and I am one happy customer. Many thanks to Joan, Chad and Vikash et al for making a difference in my life.

At age 37 my long sight was becoming more of a problem as I got older. I had worn contact lenses since I was in my late 20’s and had some damage to my eyes as a result of excessive wear. Basically I had grown extra blood vessels due to my eyes being starved of oxygen. This then resulted in having to wear glasses which I hated, and by the end of the day I struggled to see clearly even with glasses on. I remember not being able to read a menu with my glasses on, and decided I had to find out about laser treatment.

I had changed my optician and asked her about laser treatment to be told I would not be suitable because my sight prescription was too high, +4.75 and +3.75, and because I had ‘dry’ eyes. My heart sank. Still, she recommended I find out for sure and I telephoned several clinics including Optimax, Ultralase and Accuvision. The first two advised me that my prescription was too high to be treated, but they could have a go at one eye, although they didn’t think the result would be very good. It was cheaper, about half the price of Accuvision, but I was not prepared to chance my eyesight for only minimal improvement. They didn’t have the technology that Accuviosion had hence the lower cost. I received a lot of brochures and telephone calls from sales staff, even though they had said I wasn’t a suitable candidate.

After a telephone converation with Accuvision I travelled the 70 miles to London for a consultation. I felt like I was clutching at straws and had braced myself for the liklihood that I would be turned down for treatment. Initially they were concerned about my dry eyes and sent me to another nearby location to have further tests. Finally, once they were happy with the results I heard the magic words that they could treat me. I was so excited, a life free of glasses. They were totally honest with me from the start and told me that they thought 20/20 vision was unlikely, but that somewhere close to that was achievable. That was fine by me. I was having to wear glasses from the time I got out of bed until I got back in it.

I had my wavefront guided lasik treatment on 29 May 2003. I was very nervous on the day, but all the staff there are very nice and put you at ease. I felt sensation during the lasik treatment but no pain, it only took minutes per eye. I had some problems with very dry eyes and had to use a lot of eye drops. I had fluctuating vision and I experienced halos around light at night time for a few weeks. I had been warned this may happen, especially as I had already had dry eyes. My vision was in effect very short sighted whilst my eyes were very dry and I couldn’t drive. I had my follow up appointments with Vikash Patel who was brilliant. If I was worried I telephoned and staff were always there to reassure me.

Now just over four months since the treatment I don’t need glasses for reading, driving – anything. I haven’t got 20/20 vision in both eyes, my left eye is slightly short sighted, but it doesn’t cause me any problems. Not a day goes past when I don’t wonder at my amazing sight. It was the best £4000 I have ever spent.

If you are thinking of having lasik treatment I would thoroughly recommend Accuvision and to consider the following:
Take your time and do your research thoroughly,
Don’t be harassed by ‘hard sell’ companies,
Remember you generally get what you pay for, and lastly
You can’t put a price on your eyesight.

I have been delighted with all of my care and would like to thank all at Accuvision especially Joan, Darius and Vikash. If you wish to contact me about my own experience please do so at sallyjennings66@hotmail.com

I went for my consultation with Vik on May 20th, which lasted longer than I thought (2 hours), but was very thorough. I have decided to go ahead with LASIK in early July, and now have to endure the waiting which is surely the worst bit. Accuvision have been personally recommended to me by a close friend who now can’t stop reading number plates from miles away, after being short sighted for years. I look forward to a successful outcome, and will put my post-surgery comments on this page..

My mother prompted me into having laser treatment – I think it is something she would have considered, if it had been available when she was my age. I had Wavefront Guided Custom LASIK on 15th January 2003, two weeks after my 41st birthday. (My mother kindly paid for one eye, as it was her suggestion!)
It is therefore exactly four weeks since my treatment. My optician in Lincoln recommended Accuvision to me. I took his advice, which meant staying in London for two nights; Tuesday -consultation, Wednesday – treatment, Thursday-follow up appointment. Listening to my mother and optician were the two best things I have EVER done.
The procedure was absolutely pain-free, the anaesthetizing drops certainly worked! Immediately after the treatment things were hazy, as to be expected. My husband escorted me back to our hotel room and I rested with my eyes shut. Every hour I administered my eye drops (these were to prevent any chance of infection) and each time I opened my eyes I noticed an improvement.
By the following morning, I simply could not believe my eyes! I could see absolutely EVERYTHING! (Even the underground station names on the map in the train on my 3rd consecutive journey to Parsons Green). Darius and Vic said the treatment had been a huge success and I couldn’t have agreed more.
One week later, I made the pilgrimage down to Fulham once again (not for the last time, I hasten to add!), to have my eyesight tested. It was better than 20/20 vision!
I still find it hard to believe (having worn glasses/ contacts for 23 years) that I now have perfect vision…it is a dream come true! I teach PE and sport is a big part of my life, so the convenience is just fantastic; also my tennis seems even better – especially pleasing having chosen the slight under correction in my less dominant eye, to delay the eventual onset of long-sightedness.
I can therefore strongly recommend ACCUVISION to anyone; their professionalism is outstanding.
I am now looking forward to my forthcoming 6-week check-up at half term when I am taking my two sons down to London to see where my miracle was performed!

Having spent months researching different clinics I booked consultations at Accuvision and maxi vision. After a disappointing experience at MaxiVision (see review later) my expectations were mixed. I expected Accuvision to be better than MaxiVision having read the reviews on this site.
I saw Joan Griffin who was incredibly helpful and answered all questions fully and completely and asked what I knew and didn’t know about lasik. She was a fantastic consultant who gave an excellent first impression of the clinic. Next I saw Daryus Pampathkey Accuvisions technical director. What can I say? He is The Man when it comes to all things Lasik. His knowledge and technical expertise are second to none, I learned more about the eye and Lasik in ten minutes with him than I did in the months of research I had done previously. Having been told at MaxiVision to expect some deterioration in my night vision (good night vision is crucial to my ambition to skipper yachts) Daryus assured me that he would be very disappointed if they did not significantly improve my night vision and showed me a graphic of the anomalies that made my current night vision significantly worse than average. The costs at £1800 per eye are significantly higher than other centres. In my opinion however there is little comparison between the treatment offered. Accuvision is simply the best. I am booked in for 27th February and will report back after the surgery.
