I had my surgery just before Christmas and I can’t believe what a difference it has made to my life. Just knowing that I no longer have to grope around for my glasses before starting the day is a revelation. I had a prescription of -4.5 and -4.0 and could see no more than 18 inches ahead of me before the surgery, the next day I could see clearly. I have just been for my check-up and now have 20/20 vision something I could never have dreamed of in my wildest dreams.

The Accuvision team were wonderful and everything was explained clearly and in a reassuring manner. They were totally realistic about what results could be expected and the time frames involved. Their customer service really is outstanding.

This procedure is truly life altering and I have already recommended it to friends and family

I had my surgery done last Wednesday 9th January. On my first visit I was very impressed by the professional approach of all staff and the exceptionally high standard of hygiene. The examination was not rushed. Every step was explained to me. I was encouraged to ask as many questions as I wanted to and if I thought of anything before the surgery date I could phone and discuss it with them. Everything was done to reassure me and I was encouraged to speak to people in the waiting room who had just had surgery.

I am 57 years old and have worn contact lenses for 35 years. My prescription -5.50 was in the left eye and -5.75 in the right. I have needed reading glassed as well as contact lenses for the past 3 years, which was -2.0 in both eyes. I had contact lenses, reading glasses, varifocal glasses, and bifocal sunglasses. This worked out to be quite expensive. I also needed a large handbag to carry them around. I was given the choice of having long vision correction, which would mean having reading glasses for close work or Monovision, which I never heard of. In laymen’s terms this gives long distance sight in one eye and short sight in the other. No glasses at all. Great.

I was very nervous when the big day arrived but all Accuvision staff were understanding and helped relieve the tension. Again the whole procedure was explained to me. I had decided on the Mono surgery and the surgeon explained everything he was doing, step by step. Drops were put in both eyes, they did not sting and my eyes felt very comfortable. I can honestly say it was painless. I could see red and green lights and was told to concentrate on the green. Within 10 minutes it was over. Just 5 minutes for each eye. I was taken to the recovery room for 5 minutes and then to the examination room where my eyes were checked thoroughly. I could actually see when I went back to the waiting room. My eyes did sting and water for about an hour that was quite uncomfortable but gradually wore off. The clinic gave me drops to put in every hour whilst awake and eye shields to wear at night. I went back to the clinic the next day for a check-up and the following Friday, then a month later.

I am so thrilled with the results. I cannot believe that after all these years I am glasses free. I would recommend Accuvision to anyone.

After the first consultation at Accuvsion my confidence was increased by the staff’s friendly and professional approach. I had no reason to lose this confidence throughout the procedure and am delighted with the results.

I had worn glasses since the age of twelve, and was unable to wear contact lenses, so to suddenly be able to go without glasses is fantastic. It’s strange, but great to think that I can now drive and watch TV without glasses, and open my eyes first thing in the morning able to see.

To those who have always had good vision it might not seem a big deal, but for me it has made a huge difference.

I cannot sing the praises of the Doctors and staff at Accuvision highly enough. I had been considering laser surgery for nearly a decade but it was only after contacting Accuvision that I felt confident enough to go ahead with the procedure. Accuvision’s ‘state of the art’ technology could virtually guarantee me 20/20 vision, and the patience of their staff as I asked hundreds of questions (often the same ones repeated) was commendable.

My prescription was -3 in both eyes, I’m 40 years old and I had worn glasses since I was 13. I had two main areas of concern when I first spoke to Accuvision. The first was that I would be able to see as well after surgery as I did with my lenses, and the second was that because of my age, I would become long sighted sooner than if I opted not to have surgery. After my initial consultation, Accuvision were able to virtually guarantee me 20/20 vision after surgery. They also explained that I would (like most people) become long sighted regardless of whether I went ahead with the procedure or not and that without surgery I would in a few years or so need bifocals. Having surgery would give me approx 5-10 years of ‘glasses free’ vision after which I would probably need to start wearing reading glasses as my eye muscles weakened and I became long sighted. The promise of 5-10 years without glasses was enough to persuade me to go ahead and have the laser eye surgery. I have to admit I was scared, terrified would be more accurate, but my fears proved to be totally unfounded. The procedure took approx 15 minutes and while it was slightly uncomfortable it did not hurt at all! My vision was instantly ‘cured’, as I left the operating theatre I was able to see my glasses on the table at the far end of the room and pick them up! You are advised to keep your eyes shut as much as possible in the next few hours after the op. To be honest that was the most comfortable thing to do, as my eyes felt as if I’d been swimming in an over chlorinated pool. It was an amazing feeling to be able to read car number plates without glasses as I left Accuvision and walked to my friend’s car.

My eyes stung for about 4 hours, but after that there was no discomfort and only a slight haziness in my vision, which cleared over the next few days. I was able to drive and return to work the morning after my op.

I am a Wimbledon tennis line judge and so perfect vision is of paramount importance to me. I would not have undergone surgery unless I was totally confident in the results that Accuvision would achieve. I also work fulltime, have 2 children and my husband travels a lot. I cannot stress how much easier life is without having to worry about lenses and solutions and glasses. My children no longer have to hunt for my specs every morning!! If you are considering eye surgery my advice is DO IT.

A quick update to my previous comments in response to some e-mails received.

My prescription was not too severe – roughly -2.00 with 1 diopter of astigmatism in each eye. I can’t exactly remember what my corneal thickness was but believe it was in the range of 560 – 600 microns. No cause for concern anyway.

However, I should mention that the team at Accuvision were slightly concerned at the steepness of the cornea in a particular area that indicated some possible thinning. To minimise the risk, they cut the flap with an inferior hinge i.e. the flap is upside down when compared to the standard procedure. I was led to believe that they can do this because they have something like six different microkeratomes at their diposal and this enables them to ensure they can choose the one most suited to your procedure. None of the other clinics I attended saw the thinning as a problem, but I was comforted that Accuvision were prepared to carry out this non-standard procedure in order to minimise the risk of future corneal problems.

Now five days post surgery. Still very pleased – minor fluctuations still being experienced, distance vision is great, vision at reading distance is variable, but manageable. I’ll find out more when I go for my next check up tomorrow.

In March this year I finally lost my patience at messing about with contact lenses and glasses and decided to undergo laser surgery to correct my vision.

After undertaking several hours of research on the internet (including this site) I decided that I would arrange for a consultation with Accuvision.

From outset I was most impressed with the professionalism of their staff. I had two consultations to confirm my suitability, during these consultations several examinations and computer readings were taken of my eyes, every procedure was explained to me clearly as were the computer print outs. From this information I was able to determine what was causing my short sight (my prescription was -5.75) and how the wavelength lasik laser procedure could correct the problems. The prognosis was good and I was very suitable for surgery even so the consultants at Accuvision did make me aware that with surgery all risks could not be eliminated and the risks were clearly explained to me.

I had my final consultation on Friday 11 April 2002 and underwent surgery on Thursday 18 April 2002. On Friday 19 April I had twenty-twenty vision. I have since had two further post operative check ups, my eyes have completely healed from surgery my eyesight exceeds twenty-twenty vision and a optician conducting a routine eye examination would not be able to detect that I have had laser surgery. I am absolutely delighted with the results.

If you are thinking of having eye surgery as well of being wary of the risks you are probably thinking about the following points

1. Does It Hurt

Answer – No the operation does not hurt. The staff at Accuvision explained everything that would happen and what to expect – they were correct every step of the way. For about four hours after the operation my eyes watered heavily and it was more comfortable to keep them closed. For a couple of days after the operation I had a slight gritty sensation in one eye. Since then I have not felt a thing nor have I experienced any side effect such as dry eyes.

2. Will Accuvision treat anybody just to bring in revenue?

Answer – I am convinced they will not. The consultation procedure is very thorough and they will not allow any one to undergo treatment unless there is a high probability that the outcome will be very successful. Their reputation seems to be of paramount importance to them. Both the pre-care and after-care are fantastic they would not risk taking on a client who was unlikely to benefit from the treatment.

3.Is it expensive

My procedure was for both eyes and cost £2500 which I think is typical for most customers. It does appear to be a lot of money. However I was spending about £600 a year on contact lenses, solutions and replacement glasses. I no longer need to spend this money so I will recoup my money in just over four years – I will never be short sighted again. I think that is a good deal.

If you have ever felt frustrated with having to correct your short sight I would strongly recommend that you consult Accuvision to see if you are suitable for laser surgery. I wish that I had done it years ago.

The service at Accuvision is brilliant. They are very friendly and professional which increased my confidence in the whole procedure. My girlfriend had already had the treatment so a lot of my worries had been answered then, even so there are still anxieties when you have to go through the treatment yourself. My prescription was quite low -1.5 and I was unsure if the procedure would make a great deal of difference, but was assured that it would. I had the treatment on the 20th April 2002 and my vision has increased brilliantly since. There was no pain at all throughout and I would definitely recommend Accuvision.

My prescription is, or was 8 in both eyes, now it’s
wonderful to see things so clearly. The team are the most dedicated professionals.

I had been turned down by everyone else , these people told me that I could be helped, and they were true to their word.

It’s early days yet, I only wish I had known about this clinic before. Keep up with the great work.

Alex

The initial consultation helps to ease the nerves, as they are extremely thorough and take time to answer all your questions. I went away without any doubt that this was a safe and worthwhile procedure. The actual surgery is quick and painless, although it is very uncomfortable, but you can see, and see better, immediately. And in my case, I was completely better with almost 20/20 vision about four hours later.
