LASIK or Lasik (laser-assisted in situ Keratomileusis) surgery is a type of refractive laser eye surgery performed by ophthalmologists for correcting myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism.
LASIK surgery is the most popular form of laser eye surgery because it requires less time for the patient to recover, and the patient feels less pain, overall; however, there are instances where other forms of treatment like Trans-Epithelial Surface Treatment may be more appropriate.
LASIK surgery is still a relatively new procedure, around 10 years old. It is important for this reason, that you choose a clinical team that has many years experience of LASIK surgery and uses the very latest technology with which to perform the LASIK surgery operation.
For LASIK surgery to be performed a very thin flap of tissue is cut from the front of the eye (the cornea) and temporarily folded back out of the way. The exposed layer of the cornea is then treated by the laser to alter its shape in such a way as to ensure that light entering the eye falls directly onto the right part of the retina for normal vision to take place. The flap is then replaced over the treated part of the eye.
LASIK surgery treatment is unique for each patient. It uses information collected about your eyes during the consultation procedure to deliver a bespoke LASIK surgery treatment plan. It is a combination of the information collected during this consultation and the surgeons skill that will give your future vision the very best outcome possible.
Please remember that our detailed visual consultation will incur no charge to you and absolutely no obligation to proceed any further with treatment. We truly believe that it is up to the patient to decide when is the right time to make a life changing decision like laser vision correction.
