    What our Amblyopia patients say...

    5/5
"I wish I had done it sooner. I was nervous about getting eye surgery but the team at AccuVision were brilliant and couldn’t have made me feel more comfortable. They were happy to answer any questions, fears or doubts about the procedure. The whole team from the receptionist through to the surgeon were very friendly and attentive. The aftercare was excellent and thorough and I always felt in capable hands. Its now 5 months since the surgery and my eyesight has turned out better than I had hoped. I had a strong prescription of + 5 with sevene astigmatism and was told I may still have to use glasses to drive but wouldn’t need them otherwise and I was happy with that after having to wear my glasses constantly since a young age and never really finding contact lenses comfortable. However, my eyesight is now brilliant and I don’t need to wear glasses at all. I couldn’t be happier with the result. If you’re considering having eye corrective surgery I would recommend going in for a complimentary screening consultation. The team are very honest and will talk you through what you can expect without making you feel any pressure."

"I have found the whole team extremely professional and any concerns I have had were put at ease at my initial consultation. I was made to feel that my medical needs were paramount not the business objectives of AccuVision."

"I would highly recommend the excellent team at AccuVision who have been thorough, patient and entirely professional throughout the course of my treatment"
    Lisa

"From the first phone call to the last check-up the team at AccuVision have been brilliant. They have truly changed my life, from being virtually blind with glasses to having good unaided vision. They saved my HGV license, my job and my standard of living."

    Treating Amblyopia

For over 15 years, AccuVision has been at the forefront of diagnosing, treating and rehabilitating patients with Amblyopia.

What is Amblyopia or ‘lazy eye’?

Amblyopia or ‘lazy eye’ as most people refer to it can present itself in many forms. Most commonly it can be can be due to a misalignment of the muscles that coordinate the movements of each eye or a large disparity in prescription between each eye. As a result of the differences between the two eyes our brain favours using one eye over the other and the eye that is not used becomes ‘lazy’.

How do I find out if AccuVision can help me?

We would recommend that the first step on your journey to better vision is a conversation with one of the clinical team, to discuss your visual requirements and history and guide you through potential options. Following this, we could see you for an initial consultation in clinic for detailed diagnostic evaluation and to assess your suitability for treatment.

How is amblyopia treated in children?

Amblyopia usually develops in childhood before the age of 7. Until this age, the visual system and particularly the visual cortex is still developing. Therefore, amblyopia treatment is most effective when it is delivered before this age. Children are prescribed glasses to correct the prescription in both eyes and given eye patches to cover the better eye, encouraging the brain to use the ‘lazy’ eye. When amblyopia is due to a misalignment of the eye muscles, strabismus or squint surgery can be performed to correct the misalignment, encouraging the brain to use both eyes together.

Unfortunately, many children are not diagnosed at an early age or do not wear their glasses and patches and the visual system remains underdeveloped through adulthood.

How is amblyopia treated in adults?

While there is no definitive cure for amblyopia in adults there are various treatment pathways that can help. The degree of success and outcome of the treatment does depend on the nature and severity of the amblyopia.

What are the treatment options for Amblyopia?

Amblyopia usually develops in childhood before the age of 7. Until this age, the visual system and particularly the visual cortex is still developing.

In adults, Amblyopia treatment is generally a two stage approach:

Step 1 – Correct or treat the underlying cause wherever possible, to maximise the optical potential of the eye.

Step 2 – Train the brain using the NeurovisionTM training program to enhance the way the eye talks to the brain.

You can learn more about these treatments here.

What are the treatment options in adults?

Our human visual system although hugely complex can be thought of as a camera system simplified into two parts, the hardware and the software. Our two eyes represent the hardware and our brain represents the software. In order for us to achieve the best vision, both aspects of the visual system must function optimally and in synchrony.

Due to the large difference in prescription between eyes, spectacles are usually not tolerated well. Different powered spectacle lenses in front of each eye creates different sized images and our brain is not able to blend the images of different size together. As a result, we simply end up suppressing the ‘lazy’ eye and essentially switching it off. To overcome this, we would use tailor-made contact lenses specific to your prescription. These lenses do not change the size of the image and hence our brain is able to blend the images from both eyes together.

We use the ‘RevitalVision’ amblyopia program which entails training sessions that are performed in your own home on a specific schedule. The training aims to enhance the ability of your visual cortex to process the vision from your lazy eye. We would see you in clinic regularly to assess your vision, monitor your progress and make any necessary changes to your training program.

Glasses and contact lenses correct the vision the best they can when they are worn but once we take them off, our vision reverts back. The “on – off” intermittent nature of visual aids often limits the ability of the brain to respond to neural conditioning. The limitations of high street clinic technologies mean that most of the complex prescriptions that amblyopic patients present with are not treatable at these places. AccuVision have for many years been helping such patients owing to our specialist environment where we have focussed on clinical expertise and technology. The goal of Laser Vision Correction here would be to reduce or eliminate one’s dependence on glasses or contact lenses to achieve the best vision possible.

    What AccuVision Will NEVER Do

    1

We won't divert enquiries to a remote call centre.

Choose to speak to AccuVision about the treatment you are interested in and you will be put through to a member of our highly experienced clinical team. You will be given qualified answers to the questions you need to ask to assist you in making your decision.

    2

We won't try to baffle you with science or Marketing We will simply provide you with the facts.

We will communicate with you on the phone, by email and in person at your consultation in a way that helps you to clearly understand your vision and how it can be corrected.

We have in depth knowledge of the technical aspects of our treatment plans and the technology we use and will be pleased to share that with you too if you wish.

    3

We won't make claims we can't substantiate.

When you research eye clinics you’ll frequently come across apparently impressive statistics that claim success. Yet on closer examination those figures probably aren’t all they claim to be. Be wary of anyone who says they can give successful outcomes 98, 99 or even 100% of the time before they even see you.

You may hear claims such as ’20:20 or your money back’ but what they don’t tell you is you’ll have to wait a year, accept a re-treat and attend all your post op appointments – There are lots of t’s and c’s.
    4

You will never be attended to by on inexperienced specialist.

Your first appointment will be with a highly experienced optometrist with 10 years experience or more. Whatever your prescription, they will give you impartial advice and base any recommendations on the specialist knowledge and expertise of the team at AccuVision. Our patient outcomes have been consistently outstanding since our  inception. This can be seen through nearly two decades of patient testimonials.

    5

We won't quote a low price just to attract your attention.

AccuVision use their specialist skills and technology to treat both everyday and highly complex prescriptions. Our prices, whilst very competitive reflect the complexity of the case we are being asked to treat. But remember, however attractive our competitors prices seem, we offer better value than any high street clinic. We can even provide 0% finance to help you spread the cost of your treatment.
    6

We won't give you a recommendation from patients you cannot contact yourself.

You’ll see plenty of recommendations from apparently overjoyed patients on other sites. But are these patients genuinely as content as they seem? At AccuVision you’ll know for certain because ours is the only site where you can ask patients about their treatment experience first-hand. You can ask them relevant questions about your case with their permission. Have a consultation on a surgery day and our patients are usually only too willing to share their experience with you.
