Reduce the need for reading glasses.
Monovision is a clinical technique that is used to deal with the correction of presbyopia, the gradual loss of the ability of the eye to change focus for close-up tasks. This condition progresses with age.
The condition of age-related presbyopia
is totally natural, the eye muscles inside the eye can no longer change the shape of the natural lens inside the eye as it hardens with age and so the ability to see things close up is also lost.
Monovision Contact Lenses for Presbyopia
The intent of monovision presbyopia correction is to replicate the effect of reading glasses on your vision, but applying it to just one eye, hence the term Monovision. Monovision contact lenses for presbyopia alter the focusing power of one eye so that it could see near objects clearly, whilst the other eye is left for distance vision. The concept of Monovision Contact Lenses for presbyopia can now be replicated by AccuVision using laser eye surgery
With contact lenses, a presbyopic patient has one eye fitted with a contact lens to correct distance vision, and the other eye fitted with a contact lens to correct near vision. LASIK Monovision works in the same way, a presbyopic patient has one eye operated on to correct for distance vision, and the other operated on to correct for near vision.
Suitability for Monovision Presbyopia Correction
To ensure that you are suitable for monovision presbyopia correction, following your consultation you will be offered a trial period with contact lenses to see if you can get used to this new way of seeing before having the LASIK monovision surgery.
