My son, recently turned 19, had always been severely short-sighted with astigmatism, and even as a toddler often had to wear thick glasses with patches over one eye in an attempt to strengthen his weaker eye. The only way he could read was with things directly in front of his face, and it was too much of a strain to read books. He has suffered many knock backs with his eyes over the years, the latest being having to give up driving lessons after failing the sight test. I was advised that Scott`s sight might never be good enough to drive. He had been waiting for months to see the eye specialist at the local hospital without success, when my brother rang and told me about an advertisement he had seen for `Accuvision`, who could treat patients that others could not, and I contacted them immediately. Before travelling 800 miles from Shetland to London I was worried with all the set backs that Scott had experienced that this might be just another waste of time, so tried to get as much information as possible from the internet, and decided to speak to `Moorfields` eye hospital. They informed me that with my sons` prescription the very best result that we could expect would be –5. I felt disillusioned on hearing this, but spoke to `Accuvison` once more who assured me that if Scott were suitable for treatment, they would expect a far better result than -5.

The consultation went very well, and Scott had the surgery the following day, 3 July 2003. I don`t think words can describe the elation I felt when the surgeon gave the thumbs up sign and described how well the surgery had gone. Scott’s` right eye is now –0.50 and left eye is –1. He thinks that it is wonderful to wake up and see things, and to be able to read normally. Although for driving he will wear glasses of a very small prescription, that`s a small price to pay. After watching him struggle for so many years it really does seem miraculous.

I would like to conclude that Scott & I found Accuvision to be a great team of helpful friendly competent people who are quite justified in exuding such confidence in their ability, when they are able to produce such amazing results. True experts in their field. We really cannot thank them enough. I am already saving up for my daughter who is also shortsighted and would like to have surgery at Accuvision.

I had surgery on Monday 19th May. Accuvision were very good - the surgery was not painful - the eye clamp was a bit uncomfortable but that was all - it just felt a bit odd. Most importantly for me is that you can't really see anything happening - so many drops are put in your eyes that everything in blurred anyway. I had no pain afterwards and my eyes didn't stream at all.

I am pleased with the results, although a 'little' disappointed as my eyes are not as good as they were with my contact lenses - I have 20/20 vision with both eyes but slightly less than 20/20 individually - I must have had better than 20/20 with my contact lenses but didn't realise it. Apparently, it could still improve - time will tell.

I would highly recommend Accuvision - the consultation was very thorough and the aftercare has been fab.

Whilst researching Lasik, I came across this website and it was largely due to the positive comments about Accuvision that I decided to have my -6 and -4 eyes corrected by Wavefront Guided Lasik last Thursday. It's all true - these guys are undoubtedly the best!!

I had a look at Boots at Bluewater as well but although their technology looks impressive, I felt the consultation was very 'production line', and my questions were really rushed through.

The procedure is unpleasant and stressful, I was surprised to find the eye clamps going in was actually the worst bit. The suction and cutting of the flap did not hurt at all. Afterwards I went home and laid in a darkened room with my eyes closed for the rest of the day (a practical tip - I bought one of those talking books which really helped to pass the time).
On my next day check up my right eye was 20/15!! Every day now I'm finding my eyes are getting clearer and less sore, everything is in much sharper focus than I ever got with glasses or contacts.
Accuvision may be expensive but it is definitely worth every penny. Everyone is highly professional. If I had to make one tiny suggestion (and I'm struggling to find one) it would be a thoughtful touch if, after the procedure, in the bag you are given containing your drops and eyeshields, that a small box of medical tissues was included? I asked for a few tissues when leaving and was given a whole box of medical tissues, they have been invaluable since for moping up streaming eyes, excess drops, and now cleaning eyes? I am much happier to use these than I would be using regular tissues.

I will be wholeheartedly recommending Accuvision in the future.
