Presbyopia Treatment and Surgery
CK (Conductive Keratoplasty) Eye Surgery
Reduce the need for reading glasses.Conductive Keratoplasty (CK) eye surgery is a minimally invasive, non-laser presbyopia treatment that helps to overcome age related long-sight. It is popular with those people who have had good sight all their lives until their mid forties when they begin to need reading glasses.
Conductive Keratoplasty (CK) Eye Surgery treatment uses low energy radio waves to shrink and tighten fibres in the cornea, re-shaping it to improve near vision. The Conductive Keratoplasty (CK) Eye Surgery for presbyopia treatment does not involve any cutting of the cornea. A small probe is used by the surgeon to apply the low energy radio waves to specific points around the outer part of the cornea.
The corneal tissue reacts to the low energy radio waves by 'shrinking' thereby tightening the tissue around the central part of the cornea, effecting a steepening of the curvature of the cornea. The changes in the curvature of the cornea allow the eyes to focus on close up objects once again.
Conductive Keratoplasty (CK) Eye Surgery can take as little as 3 minutes and can restore near vision, reducing or eliminating the need for reading glasses.
Monovision Conductive KeratoplastyPatients with good distance vision who wish to be able to see close up for reading can opt to have one eye treated with Conductive Keratoplasty (CK) Eye Surgery. This results in one eye becoming dominant for near vision and the other eye remaining the dominant eye for distance vision.
Before any presbyopia treatment takes place, your Accuvision optometrist would ask you to place a contact lens in one eye to replicate the effect of a Monovision treatment. If you were able to adapt to this new way of seeing then a Monovision Presbyopia treatment would be recommended to you.
