I month update:
Most of the fluctuation has died down now, except for
some small near vision changes. It also takes a little while in the morning
for full clarity to appear.
Overall I am very happy. My eyes are comfortable and
my sight is pretty much sorted for most things.
I do find that for small letters in low light I cannot
read things I used to be able to. For example, I now need a torch to read
the central heating control panel in the boiler cupboard. But things are
still improving and could do so for a few months.
While LASIK is obviously quicker to give results that
PRK, it is important to realize that things will vary for at least a month,
otherwise you might be disappointed/worried early on. I was very nervous
when after a couple of days of excellent vision immediately after the
op, things went quite blurry for a few days on days 4 and on.
Night flares are no problem, although noticeable if I
look for them. I no longer need the eye drops more than once every few
days.
All in all, a good thing.

The thanks first! I really don't know how to say 'thanks' in a way that's
big enough! Thanks to this website for me finding Accuvision in Fulham...I'm
grateful for being able to see again after the agony of the last 11 months....the
birds, the stars that are points of light and not blurs..... To be able
to drive at night... I'm grateful to the fact that there is technology
available to treat eyes that were as messed up as mine and for the fact
that I decided to trust Accuvision and their team when I was at an all
time visual low and that there was a clinic who understood what a patient
feels ...... for everything!
Daryus, thank you for taking the time and having the
patience to gain my confidence and explaining in minute details what the
reasons for my previous surgery going so wrong were and what could be
done to improve the quality of my vision and not assuming that as a lay
person I would not understand.... without that I may not have proceeded
a second time around.
For people out there who put a price on getting their
eyes treated, a message.... Statistics are not a substitute for judgement
and inevitably when YOU are part of the minute statistic of things going
wrong in a surgical procedure, who you have trusted with your eyes makes
all the difference.

I had my laser treatment 16th October 2002 and havn't stopped smiling
since. I had very short sight and high astigmatism (-9.00sph, +4.00cyl
axis 75 and -10.50 sph + 5.25 cyl axis 90. I had booked for treatment
at Moorfields but had reservations about how effective their laser equipment
would be on my high prescription so, after further research I contacted
Accuvision because I had read about their advanced equipment incorporating
wavefront technology. During the free and lengthy assessment Darius became
involved, instilling total confidence, which convinced me he could correct
my sight, and that his was the clinic to use. I had no hesitancy cancelling
with Moorfields and trusting my eyes to Accuvision, who clearly demonstrated
they have the equipment and expertise necessary for the treatment on my
challenging prescription. I would highly recommend them, especially if
you have a difficult prescription, coupled with thin corneas, large pupils
and dry eye syndrome! Everything against me, but they still managed to
correct my sight. The entire team are kind, friendly and helpful, and
the post op care is superb. Viv Ashton

Having worn glasses/lenses for 12 years and being a Mother of two under
two's I decided it was time and had Wavefront treatment on both eyes (L-3.75
R -4.0 with astigmatism) on Friday 30th November. For two hours following
surgery my eyes felt gritty and watered but after that I was able to watch
television and eat without assistance - admittedly the room was dark and
I was wearing sunglasses! The following morning at my check up I was 20:20
and a week later was better than 20:20 - FANTASTIC. It's now ten days
after surgery and apart from experiencing a little halo around bright
lights there's nothing to report. Had I not had absolute confidence in
Daryus, his team and their technology I would still be wearing glasses/lenses
which, to be honest, I've almost forgotten about already. Corny as it
sounds this really has changed my life ... THANK YOU.

I had the operation at Accuvision on Friday. The reasons I chose Accuvision
were the consistently positive comments here and the fact that I have
poor nightvision with a lot of glare and starbursts. Or rather had. :-)
The result of the operation is that I have perfect daytime vision and
my nighttime vision has improved too. I drove yesterday evening and although
I have some halo-effects around lights, they are much easier to deal with
than the starbursts I used to have. But I almost didn't go through with
the surgery. Lying on the operating table with the clip in my right eye,
I freaked out. The combination of watching somebody have the operation
from the waiting room before being prepped for my own operation and a
comment made in the operating room that triggered previous trauma memories,
made me very, very scared. Luckily I was able to calm myself down with
the help of the nurse and Darius. If they hadn't been so supportive I
wouldn't have been able to go through with the operation. I'm very glad
I did. Being able to see first thing in the morning is an incredible blessing.
Not to mention having peripheral vision. With my -6D I could really only
see straight ahead with glasses.

I had my LASIK at Accuvision on 4th December. I was around a +3.75, +3.75
prescription in both eyes, i.e. quite longsighted with what the surgeon
described as a 'wow, monster stigmatism'.
Accuvision were more expensive than the other company
(Ultralase) who said they could treat me, but seemed more confident and
professional, so I went with them.
The surgery was very quick and painless, and I didn't
really suffer much discomfort afterwards either. I spent the whole afternoon
in bed with my eyes closed.
45 minutes after the treatment, I was up to driving test
standards, and the next day I was nearly 20/20. Since then, my right eye
has fluctuated quite alot, which has worried me, but Vic assured me that
this was quite normal for the first week or two. In fact, when I went
in for an unscheduled appointment, as I was a bit worried, my right eye
still tested only one line short of 20/20.
The flares at night are still pretty big, but manageable,
and should die down over the next few weeks.
I will post another message in a couple of weeks to give
a progress report.
All in all, I am very happy with the result so far. The
staff is friendly, helpful and professional. I would recommend Accuvision
strongly.
On a related note, I encourage anyone who has had surgery
to post on this site as it was very important to me in the run up to my
surgery to see the updates that people left.

I went to Accuvision after three other eye clinics told me my prescription
was impossible to treat. My prescription was R +4.25, L +3.75 with a very
high Astigmatism. I had been wearing corrective lenses all my life and
after the other eye clinics told me I was too far out of range to treat,
I consigned myself to always wear corrective lenses.
My last resort was to go to Accuvision (without much hope for a treatment)
and they were very encouraging and told me they were very confident they
could treat my eyes, and hopefully to an acceptable vision (at least to
drive without glasses). So I trusted them and set up an appointment for
the surgery.
I was very impressed with their professionalism, kindness, and attentativeness
on the day. I had my surgery and was assured that everything was going
to plan. The next day I came back for a followup to the surgery and I
was pleased to have them tell me they thought I could attain 20/20 vision
in both eyes.
Today I went back for another followup 10 days after the surgery only
to find out that indeed I have 20/20 vision. My vision is even better
now than it was with my glasses or contacts. I am very pleased and can
not say enough thanks to the Accuvision staff for achieving the impossible
and freeing me of my glasses. Thank you, Thank you Thank you!!!!

I had my operation on Tuesday 26th November. I have just had my 10 day
check up and the results are brilliant. At 18 years of age, I seem to
bew one of the younger patients at the clinic but the procedure seems
to have been just as effective. I have been short sighted from the age
of 8 with a prescription of -4.5 in both eyes, astigmatism and neovascularisation
of the cornea.
The treatment I recieved at Accuvision was excellent.
All the staff were very friendly - Darius Vikash, Mr Ayliffe and the clinic
nurse. There were initially some problems and although I was booked in
for 9 am, I did not have the procedure until 3pm. Although this seems
a negative point, I was relieved as I knew they would not carry out the
operation unlesss they were 100% sure that everything was correct.
My vision is now perfect and I would certainly recommend
the clinic and the procedure to anyone who is considering it.

Tomorrow, 29 November, is the day of reckoning when I go to Accuvision
to have mono-vision Lasik treatment. Having reached the ripe old age of
41, I decided to go with their recommendation of mono-vision, especially
after having trailed mono-vision contact lenses (arranged through Boots).
Although I don't need reading glasses, they hope to put off the need for
them for several years to come. Accuvision were great when I went for
my consultation in October and, after a rather variable reception at Boots,
ranging from extremely friendly to extremely offhand, I chose Accuvision.
Only they suggested that they try and improve my night vision, which wasn't
even mentioned at Boots. And the whole team were knowledgeable, helpful
and patient. I'll get back to you when I've had the op.

I had the LASIK operation at Accuvision on 20th November 2002 and am now
1 week post-op. The results are superb and still might improve slowly.
My prescription was shortsight with astigmatism, Right SPH -8 CYL -1.5
AXIS 155, Left SPH -7.5 CYL -1.5 AXIS 15, very large pupils and average
corneal thickness. Ultralase said they could do the op with a reasonably
good chance of success, but failed to tell me I would be left with a dangerously
thin cornea, and still didn't tell me when I asked them directly (after
going to Accuvision). My first appointment at Accuvision was double booked,
but fortunately I forgave them and went along, thankfully as I found out
all about corneal thickness and large pupils. The Wavefront technology
they use (incidentally also used in Canada, New Zealand and Australia)
goes a long way to solving those problems. I did quite a lot of research
into the subject and am glad I chose Accuvision as I have been confident
in their abilities since the first consultation. It is expensive, but
with an odd prescription, it is worth every penny towards the chance of
a good result. Thanks to all at Accuvision, especially, Darius, Vik and
Mr. Ayliffe. To those considering the op, check with the clinics when
you have the consultation how much of your cornea they will leave behind
(the Residual Stroma Thickness is the important part). If the answer is
less than 250 microns, start worrying. This is the 'safe' lower limit,
but that might not even be 'safe'. The more the better. Don't be surprised
if a clinic won't tell you or just give you the total corneal thickness
including flap - don't trust them. Accuvision have left me with 270 microns,
so I'm pleased with that. Please e-mail me if you would like to know anymore
about my experience.

I had my consultation at Accuvision with Vik just over a week ago now
i am booked in for Wednesday 27th November for Accuwave lasik surgery.
I was made to feel very comfortable at my consultation
and i never thought or felt for one moment he was selling me anything.
I don't have such bad eyes -4 in both but the fact that
i have huge pupils made a difference and that's why i am having the accuwave
treatment. Yes its extremely expensive but i don't think you can just
take the chance on a good deal.
I did loads of research before going ahead with my consultation
and it helped me a lot. This website is great so please keep posting your
stories.
I will let you know how it all goes next week.

On the 22nd November 2002 I was given my new mono eyesight by Accuvision
treatment. On the 23rd November 2002 I awoke to find I had achieved 20/20
vision. I am 57 years old and had a prescription of -6.00 with astigmatism
and -5.00. I had attended two other clinics for assessment and because
I had thin corneas was declined for surgery by both. I felt depressed
and beyond help! By chance I was told about Wavefront Lasik treatment
at Accuvision and after a successful consultation, given with great care
and professionalism, was accepted for corrective surgery. DON'T WASTE
TIME GOING ELSEWHERE - Accuvision are the BEST. They use the latest technology
and have the best laser treatment, taking less corneal tissue. They are
the only ones I would trust with my eyes. Five Stars is the maximum award
but if I could I would give them SIX! To Darius and all the wonderful
and caring Staff at Accuvision - Thankyou - Thankyou - Thankyou.

With a prescription of +7.00 / -2.00 * 180 in both eyes and one of my
eyes being a lazy eye, I had resolved myself to being dependent on visual
aids until I found Accuvision in London. I decided to trust my eyes to
Accuvision and proceeded to AccuWave LASIK treatment 6 weeks ago.
What a result!! I cannot thank the team enough for their
commitment and support throughout my treatment. From receptionist to surgeon,
from consultation to completion, my treatment was second to none.
I was clearly informed of any risks and the procedure
was explained to me in great detail, there was no pressure and no misleading
information to influence me to proceed.
After being turned down by six ( yes six!!!!!!!! ) "leading"
laser eye clinics ( Ultralase, Optimax, Rosen Eye Clinic, Birchendale,
The Eye Clinic and Boots ) I had given up all hope until someone like
me with a very long-sighted prescription told me about Accuvision. From
my first phone call to Accuvision I was given hope by the fact that they
have the very best and very latest technological laser equipment at their
disposal, not forgetting the formidable skill of the eye surgeons.
The result of my treatment has far exceeded my expectations;
for the first time in forty-one years I am able to see and function without
spectacles and I will be forever grateful. I would, and do, recommend
their service and expertise to anyone who suffers from defective eyesight.

I am having LASIK corrective eye surgery at Accuvision is the best decision
that I have ever made. For the first time in my life I feel normal. My
parents thought that I was a 'SLOW' child until I started school and they
realised that I could not see (my prescription was -9.00 and -12.00 with
a bad astigmatism). I had tried contact lenses and very expensive glasses
with the thinnest lenses possible but still groped around for my glasses
before even being able to get out of bed, as it was rather like looking
through frosted glass otherwise! When I first met my husband he thought
I was smiling at him - the truth was that I couldn't even see him! (fortunately
I still love him).
My current prescription is -0.25 and -1.75 with a slight
astigmatism and the need for reading glasses to balance my eyes if the
light is poor as well as glasses for driving. At 51 years old I was the
only one able to read the menu without glasses on a recent night out with
friends. The staff at Accuvision are all extremely professional and supportive.
Daryus in particular was wonderful. Some people may think that at £4000
the cost is expensive. Personally, I feel like a new woman and could not
put a price to the confidence and sheer pleasure in life that my new sight
has given me. I was previously refused even a consultation with other
clinics as I was beyond the recommended range of -8.00 or +2.00, but would
highly recommend Accuvision.

My mum had the surgery done two weeks ago and believes it is the best
thing she has ever done (Her name is Elaine Seward). Even though the cost
was £4000 her eyesight was poor and she was refused the procedure
in Leeds, and she is glad that she was, as the service at London was fantastic.
You cannot put a price on your vision. She has recovered well and cannot
thank them enough for what they have done for her. The staff couldn't
have done anymore than what they did and she would recommend the clinic
to anyone thinking of having the procedure done

Had my first weeks check-up yesterday. Eyes seem to be healing nicely.
Dry eye symptoms are getting better day by day, only have to use the drops
a couple of times a day now and my eyes are already feeling pretty comfortable.
Night vision is not yet perfect but has improved quite a bit. Vision is
still around the 20/20 mark. All-in all excellent progress. Have my next
check-up in 5 weeks; I'll post an update then.

Well another review for Accuvision and another 5 out of 5…. ;-)
My prescription before my operation was around -8 in both eyes with around
-3 diopters of astigmatism in both eyes giving a whopping -11 combined
refractive error! On top of this my cornea's were around 10% thinner than
average, (something no other clinic thought to mention!). I had been turned
down for Lasik treatment at another clinic and offered Lasek instead but
I was a bit weary of Lasek because of the increased risk of corneal hazing
in the very short sighted like me and the fact the clinic had only recently
started offering the procedure. After doing a bit of research on the web
I went to Accuvision who said they could do a Lasik procedure on me. The
morning after the operation I was 20/20 in one eye and 20/15 in the other.
It's now two days since the operation, I do have some dry eyes although
the drops they gave me do seem to be helping and I do have poor night
vision but these are all very common so soon after the operation I am
told. I am amazed at how much I can see and I must thank Mr Roydon and
Darius who performed the surgery. At £4000 my treatment was hughly
expensive, but I went with Accuvision because I thought they could give
me the best chance at a great result, and at the end of the day when its
your eyes that are involved that's all you can do (I'm sure we've all
hear the horror stories of what happens when things go wrong!). In order
to correct my high prescription they performed a cutting edge treatment
with cutting edge equipment. I will post another update when I've had
my one week post-op consultation. It sound like all treatments at Accuvision
are £4000, they are not, you can pay a lot less than that depending
on how bad your eyes are. I paid top whack because I had a very high prescription
and thin corneas something no other clinic I have been to can treat with
a Lasik procedure... just wanted to avoid any confusion.

My prescription before treatment was Right Eye SPH -3.25 CYL -4.50 Left
Eye –SPH -3.25 CYL -5.50. I had worn glasses for 35 years and I
was a real no hoper for Lasik as I have a high astigmatism in my left
eye and also dry eyes, which meant I could not wear contact lenses. After
being turned down flat when giving my prescription over the telephone
by both Boots and Optimax I finally went to see Ultralase in Leeds who
offered me Lasek, I booked my appointment but when I came back off holiday
they had cancelled stating that the consent forms were still not back
from the printers and it would be another 4-5 weeks (I had already waited
4 weeks). I lost all confidence and cancelled my appointment altogether
and resigned myself to wearing glasses, however reading the Daily Mail
a couple of days later I happened to notice the Accuvision advert I had
not seen it before and although they where based in London I decided to
ring them and try one more time. Am I glad I did, I spoke to Daruis who
was very helpful and informative and in the space of that 10 minute chat
I knew that I had found a company that genuinely wanted to help me and
my trust and faith were restored 100 fold. Due to the distance involved
(I live in Doncaster) Daruis arranged it so I could travel down on the
14th August for a consultation and if everything was ok I could have the
treatment the same day. All the people down at Accuvision were lovely,
Mike was very helpful and informative, Vik tested my eyes and explained
in full detail what the outcome would be and also the negative sides,
Darius and Mr Ayliff did the procedure. The procedure took approx 15 minutes
and was painless, I had slight initial blur but now 6 weeks later my vision
is fantastic and I have a permanent grin on my face. Thank you Accuvision
you took a hopeless glasses wearing reject and made me whole again!! If
anyone is thinking of having this procedure done I would highly recommend
Accuvision their service is second to none and I would be happy to answer
any queries anyone may have.

I went for the consultation 2 weeks ago, and it was very thorough and
reassuring. I was extremely impressed with the actual tests themselves
- Accuvision certainly have remarkable technology and I'm confident that
with my large pupils they could prevent night vision side effects and
halos, etc.
However, their costs are astronomical. I had been under
the impression that Wavefront was approximately £3000 (this was
my "upper limit" for spending). However, when they told me it
was £4000, my jaw dropped.
That's £2000 for EACH eye.
I haven't contacted them since - however, I don't intend
to go anywhere else, as I don't want to risk using conventional Lasik
(i.e. without Wavefront) on my large pupils. So I will return eventually,
when I've worked out how to pay for the surgery ...
Accuvision are the best, I'm sure - but you really have
to take the costs into consideration if you're going for Wavefront. If
the cost of surgery was up to £3000 then it would be a medical/health
decision. But at £4000 it becomes more like a financial decision
than anything else (even with the easy payment plan).
Their advert says it all - "Go on: Put a price on
them ..."

What can I say apart from WOW !!!!! I had my eyes done with the wavefront
laser surgery on 25th September and I can honestly say it is the best
thing I have ever done in my life. I had worn glasses since I was 6 years
old and for the last 23yrs had relied on glasses or contact lenses to
get me through the day, I had a prescription of -6.50 in the right eye
and -6.25 in the left. Also I had astigmatism in both eyes. I was absolutely
petrified on the morning of the surgery and spent the 20 minutes before
I went in shaking like a leaf. Daryus and his team were fantastic throughout
especially for a "wimp" like me. The actual procedure was quick
and painless. Even though they tell you this beforehand, you still have
your doubts. But really it is !!!! I sat up and could see straight away.
I was probably one of the lucky ones as afterwards I had none of the watering
eyes or gritty feeling which they tell you to expect. It is now 9 days
since I had the surgery. I have been for my first week check up and I
have a vision of 20/20 in the left eye and 20/10 in the right. I am still
amazed when I wake up in the morning that I can now see my alarm clock
!!! I would recommend Accuvision to anyone and have already recruited
a couple of candidates who I think were using me as a guinea pig !!

NO PAIN, NO PAIN! - I have tried to have laser surgery twice
before with different companies, but they were unable to help due to the
extremely complicated nature of my prescription. As well as short sight
of –4.50 and –7.50, I also had astigmatism in both eyes and
extremely thin corneas. It was the latter that had prevented previous
surgery and that caused Accuvision some concern. To my amazement I was
advised that Accuvision could carry out the operation – the only
company able to do so - but that I would still be left with a prescription
of approx. – 2.00 in the right eye. This meant that I would still
need glasses for reading and night driving.
My immediate reaction was that I would like to have the
surgery anyway – the main reason I did not want to wear glasses
was for sports, and evenings out, which would still be possible. However
because my prescription also carried a slightly higher risk due to the
extreme thinness of the corneal flap that they would have to cut, Accuvision
wouldn’t let me go ahead without thinking seriously about it and
insisted that I wait 2 weeks before going ahead.
The worst thing about the operation itself was the first
bit, where they put a clamp on your eye to hold the lids apart. This is
very uncomfortable, but it doesn’t get any worse. I felt no pain
at all during the operation itself or after it. I stayed at home that
afternoon and evening and kept my eyes shut as advised - the very next
morning I woke up with 20:20 vision in both eyes!! I will always remember
waking up and being able to see a glass mobile hanging on the branches
of a neighbour’s tree at least 100 yards away. I probably shouldn’t
have, but I felt so good that I went to a party that very night and stayed
out ‘till 4:00 am with no ill effects other than the hangover!!
(I did however wear light sunglasses for protection).
Since then (4 weeks ago) the vision in my right eye has
regressed a little, to –0.50, but I still don’t need to wear
glasses. I was prepared for a much less successful result and it feels
like an absolute miracle after years of squinting, searching for my glasses
first thing in the morning, losing contact lenses or juggling glasses,
prescription sunglasses and skiing goggles!!
Sorry this is so long to read, but I really can’t
say enough about how great it is – I’m badgering all my friends
who are swithering to go ahead and get it done. It really will change
your life!

I had a very strong prescription (-6,-6.5) so after a trip around various
clinics who said 'they would do their best', I was overjoyed when I found
Accuvision. They may cost more than others but you have only one set of
eyes and who better to entrust them to.
It's six weeks since I received the treatment and I still
wake up ever day amazed by the results. My vision was virtually crystal
clear the day following treatment and a week later perfect. What more
can you ask for.

Lisa, I hope you made the best decision because after all the research
I've done on this issue I find Accuvision to be world-class in their treatments.
They do charge more than other clinics but they offer more. No-one else
does what they do right now in the UK or USA. The extra £350 you
complain about is the difference between an average and an excellent outcome!
Good luck.

Without doubt the best money I've ever spent. My prescription was -8.50
and -6.75 i.e. I've worn lenses/glasses since the year zip. I had intended
checking out other clinics, but after 2 relaxed, non-pressured hours with
Nick, Iwas convinced i had found the right place. Nick noticed straight
away the extended blood vessels in my eyes from over use of contact lenses
(my optician had told me just 2 weeks prior that i cannot wear lenses
any more as a result), but accurately said it was not a problem for surgery.
Its only 24hrs on and apart from a bit of haze, which
i was fore-warned about, my vision is as good as with contacts. I've already
told everybody i know with myopia, who are amazed having seen me scrape
around many times like a mole on Sunday mornings after beers looking for
my glasses (think they were letting me be the guinea pig as my eyes were
the worst!)
Many thanks, truly a life changing experience

A quick update to my previous comments in response to some e-mails received.
My prescription was not too severe - roughly -2.00 with
1 diopter of astigmatism in each eye. I can't exactly remember what my
corneal thickness was but believe it was in the range of 560 - 600 microns.
No cause for concern anyway.
However, I should mention that the team at Accuvision
were slightly concerned at the steepness of the cornea in a particular
area that indicated some possible thinning. To minimise the risk, they
cut the flap with an inferior hinge i.e. the flap is upside down when
compared to the standard procedure. I was led to believe that they can
do this because they have something like six different microkeratomes
at their diposal and this enables them to ensure they can choose the one
most suited to your procedure. None of the other clinics I attended saw
the thinning as a problem, but I was comforted that Accuvision were prepared
to carry out this non-standard procedure in order to minimise the risk
of future corneal problems.
Now five days post surgery. Still very pleased - minor
fluctuations still being experienced, distance vision is great, vision
at reading distance is variable, but manageable. I'll find out more when
I go for my next check up tomorrow.

Having attended consultations at three different clinics, Accuvision were
the obvious choice for the following reasons:
1) The consultation with Vik was by far the most thorough.
Vik was extremely knowledgeable and also the most forthcoming about possible
outcomes and potential risks.
2) I was convinced that the Accuwave technology offered the best solution
for me especially as this customised wavefront treatment offered the best
outcome in terms of night vision complications. I was also strongly comforted
that the Allegretto laser would remove less of my cornea than many other
widely available lasers.
3) I got a genuine feeling that both Vik and Daryus had a very strong
belief that they were offering the best Lasik solution, and an equally
strong desire to ensure the best possible outcome.
4) They had the best looking clinic. (Not a major factor, but it helps.)
So, two days ago I had the surgery at Accuvision. It
was quicker than going to the opticians for an eye test. (Well, almost
- with the length of time you have to wait at some opticians!!) Surgery
went very smoothly - Daryus and William Ayliffe (Surgeon) appeared supremely
confident and nothing happened to give me any reason to doubt them. I
had a few problems focusing on the green light with my right eye, but
the left was no problem. The one area I was concerned about - the placing
of the suction ring prior to cutting the flap - was a little uncomfortable
but certainly no pain. Post-surgery I was advised things had gone well,
and sent home with a protective bandage contact lens in each eye. Things
were a little uncomfortable for the next few hours - eyes kept shut most
of the time. Thereafter, it was just the bandage contact lens in my left
eye that was irritating the hell out of me. Returned for my 24hr check-up
the next day, and was mighty relieved to have that lens removed. Instant
relief was followed by swift improvement in vision. Virtually 20/20 at
24 hours post-op.
I am now 50 hours post-op and the eyes are feeling increasingly
comfortable. i.e. they are losing the gritty feeling. My vision is already
better than it was with my contact lenses before the op. There are moments
of vision quality fluctuation, but that is to be expected for the next
couple of weeks.
This board was very helpful in reassuring me that Accuvision
was a good choice, my thanks to all those who posted here, I am pleased
to add my name to the list of satisfied Accuvision customers and thank
Daryus and his team for an excellent result.

I thought I would ring Accuvision up, as they appear to have a good write
up from most people. The first thing I asked was about the fee and I have
been advised that the fee is actually £1,250 per eye and not £900
as stated above. I was also very dismayed to be on the receiving end of
a very patronising young lady, which leads me to believe I have made the
right decision in choosing Maxivision to have my surgery.

Here is my update: I had an appointment on Thursday, 22nd August 2002
and am so very happy with the outcome. So happy I went out that night
to celebrate again! (Each time I see Accuvision I seem to be celebrating)
I just couldn't stop smiling all the way home, but then again from the
start that is the effect Accuvision has had on me so that is nothing new!!
My sight was tested and my left eye is still 20/20 and when my right eye
was tested it has improved and also reached 20/20 vision so that means
that my sight has stabilized and both eyes are the same vision now. This
is so amazing coming from someone who until 20th June (when I had my op)
never had 20/20 vision, my vision was a line below. Also, I had an abberometer
test (post-op) which showed that at least 70% of my aberrations were removed
which is fantastic, so Accuvision don't just correct your prescription
but also correct your own personal prescription which makes a tremendous
difference to the outcome. Like as well as getting rid of my short-sightedness
Accuvision also got rid of my coma aberration. Before my op when I had
the abberometer test it was discovered that I had a coma aberration. Vikesh
explained to me that a coma aberration is normally found in someone with
large pupils even though you don't have to necessary have large pupils
to get a coma aberration. My pupils have never been large so I never suspected
that I had effects/problems in my eyes, which people with large pupils
suffer from. I always thought people with large pupils had problem with
night glare so when I was told despite having normal-sized pupils I had
this coma aberration I was quite surprised as I always thought that someone
who has coma aberration would have problems with night-glare especially
after having the op. In fact I can honestly say that since my operation
my night vision is notably better than before, constantly improving, and
I have experienced no worsening night vision, no night-glares or anything
like that. If things appear brighter it is actually because I can now
see them clearly!! When Vikesh mentioned the coma aberration, another
part of a jigsaw puzzle finally came into place. I always found that although
I never had night-glare I did suffer from poor night vision and things
appeared very dim, like I hated going down steps in the dark - I could
hardly see them - but didn't realise how poor my vision was till after
the op. Now it has changed my life. My night vision as well as my day
vision never fails to continue to surprise me and I could not be happier
with the outcome. It is incredible waking up and seeing all the details
in everyday life which I didn't notice before the operation simply because
I couldn't see it!! Also thank you Vikesh for your time and explaining
a bit about the aberration to me, I found it fascinating and as I mentioned
earlier, it explains why I experienced the problems I had before my op.
My next check-up is in 6 months time + I was told that there is the possibility
that my vision will continue to improve and exceed 20/20 but even if it
doesn't that is ok - I am so deliriously happy having 20/20 vision, I
never dreamt in my wildest dreams that I would have such good, clear,
crisp vision all thanks to Accuvision.
Again ....a big thank you to everyone in Accuvision,
you truly are an amazing Team who perform miracles.
As I said before:

When I had money left to me from when my Grandpa and Granddad died, I
knew straight away what I wanted to spend the money on, I couldn't think
of anything I'd rather have than to be able to see! Although for me, contact
lenses were far better than glasses, I still felt they took away my spontaneity;
I want to travel and learn to surf, and fall asleep on the sofa/anywhere
I end up!! I had to wait till I was 20 and my eyes had stopped growing,
and when I went for the consultation and Vic said my eyes were suitable
I couldn't believe it- I had always prepared myself for wearing contacts
forever, this really was a miracle!
When it came to the operation I was so glad I had chosen
Accuvision because they really are experts. All the way through the consultation
they had been honest and open with me and had nothing to hide. All my
questions were answered truthfully,(and I asked LOADS!!) so I trusted
them completely. It was that trust that got me through the operation along
with the support and genuine friendliness of Darius and Mr.Aycliffe.
I just feel so so so lucky now, my eyes are free from
contacts and I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders.
The operation is like a rollercoaster of emotions, and you know it’s
going to be scary, but you've got a strong sturdy seatbelt. After 2 weeks,
my eyes have settled, I've got off the rollercoaster and every day I'm
still buzzing at how amazing it was. I have no regrets about spending
all that money because it is the best thing I've ever done for myself.
My eyes are surprising me every day, and all I can say is you won't believe
it until you see it for yourself! Thank you so much to everyone at Accuvision

Had wave guided LASIK surgery (surgeon: Nick Jacobs) on 20/6/02. Wave
guided cost 3000, normal LASIK 2500 - I was told I needed wave guided
because of poor night vision (poor contrast distinction in low light).
Initial prescription -3.50 (both eyes). Vision now 20/10 i.e. I could
read the smallest line on the test chart! Staff very helpful - see the
article in the Daily Mirror of 25/7/02 for a positive account from a patient
who experienced complications after surgery (which is always a small risk).
Staff are aware of this website - I chose Accuvision as it was the only
clinic that everyone who had contacted it gave 5/5 to when I was looking
in May. After my checkup today they gave me the new web address... Still,
have to say they were excellent.

I had been considering having my eyes treated for over a year and was
recommended to Accuvision by a work colleague. My concerns were that my
prescription was very high (-10 with -1 astigmatism) and that I have very
large pupils. During the consultation with Vikash it was confirmed that
with earlier technology my prescription would have resulted in being turned
away, but it was possible to return my eyes to 'normal' vision without
compromising the cornea thickness, however I might have glare from lights
when driving at night. As this is a problem I already had with contact
lenses there was nothing to lose! Vik was very patient, thorough and advised
me of all the risks etc., which was important.
Well I went ahead with the treatment! On the day I was
very nervous, but all the staff, especially the surgeon Mr. Ayliffe, were
patient and comforting. After the treatment everything went exactly as
advised. My eyes were light sensitive and felt like they had soap in them
and wanted to stay shut for about 4 hours. After 6 hours I was able to
see reasonably clearly without those dreaded spectacles, and after a good
nights sleep I was able to see clearly. My family helped me with the eye
drops that were prescribed and they were surprised that there was no redness
or sign of anything having been done to the eyes. At the routine test
the following day it was confirmed that I now had 20/20 vision again;
the first time in 25 years and a better result than I had hoped for. I
am now planning a holiday where I will be able to swim etc. rather than
sit at the pool side with my contact lenses in.
I am now recommending this treatment and Accuvision
to all my friends who are 'optically challenged' and only wish I had had
it done sooner.

Just a quick update. Went for my first week check on Friday. Vision has
fluctuated a bit over the last week - tends to be worse when im tired.
Have had no pain, no dry eyes and my eyes feel totally normal - I have
to keep reminding myself that I had my eyes corrected just over a week
ago.
Anyway had my week check up and was told that my right
eye is better than 20/20 and my left is 20/20 - excellent result. Eyes
have healed really well and no problems with the flaps. And considering
my prescription I couldn't have wished for more.
I have to be checked again in six weeks and hopefully
the result will be much the same and who knows it may even be better.
I am happy to answer any questions etc. so please feel
free to email me.
I would just like to say thanks to everyone at Accuvision

Words cannot describe how amazing Accuvision is to me. To say the Team
at Accuvision is excellent would be an understatement. They are simply
the best. Initially, my regular opticians (The Eye Clinic) sent me a letter
saying I am within the acceptable range for eye surgery and they could
offer me a free assessment. I could only wear my contact lenses about
3 times a week because they irritated my eyes if I wore them for too long,
plus they made my eyes red after a while and years ago, always knew at
some point when technology improved I would investigate LASIK further.
So, after the assessment with the Eye Clinic even though they told me
I was suitable I just did not feel that trust and confidence with them.
I rang a few more laser clinics like Moorfields who told me that chances
are they would have to perform LASIK twice on me in order to correct my
vision since the prescription was so high. Before the op my right eye
was -5 with a slight stigmatism of -100 x 175 and my left eye was -7.50
with a slight stigmatism of 11 x 150. Then I came across Accuvision, and
read about the Wavefront Guided Custom LASIK and the laser itself having
the ability to focus the beam to a finer point than other lasers the result
being that it removes far less corneal tissue than other clinics - about
30-40% microns less which is reassuring. I then rang up Accuvision and
got to speak to Darius who answered my questions and I was so impressed
I immediately booked an appt for an assessment. Thursday, 9th May I had
my assessment and Accuvision were fantastic, answering all my questions,
telling me that in my case the risks were very low, no higher than the
average patient, and that the outcome would be hopefully no glasses with
there only being a slim chance of having to do a top-up op, but of course
made it clear to me that no op is risk free. It wasn't just the high technology,
which impressed me, they were professional, friendly and fantastic from
the start, Mike, Vikesh and Darius and of course not forgetting my surgeon
Mr Jacobs. They even said if I have doubts, then I shouldn't feel I have
to come back if I don't want to and shouldn't feel pressured. That even
impressed me more, I could see money didn't even come into it, and believe
they only accept people who they know they can achieve a good outcome,
they don't just accept anyone.(In answer to the comment made by the Observer
all surgeons at Accuvision are under the GMC and my surgeon was Mr Jacobs)
I felt that trust and confidence and knew that my eyes would be okay and
booked my op for Thursday, 20th June 2002. That was the best decision
I ever made. The day before my op I had my final assessment and watched
an op, which only confirmed I made the right decision. I even was introduced
briefly to Mr Jacobs, my surgeon, and that again confirmed I made the
right decision. I was told the price of my op (£3,000) and thought
there is no price to my eyes, eyes are priceless - I knew I was in the
best hands and wouldn't go elsewhere even if it was for free. The next
day I had my op and even though I saw one the day before was still amazed
at how quick the op was. I felt a combination of nervousness and excitement.
I felt no pain whatsoever and only had to concentrate on the green/red
light and before I knew it - it was over. Immediately after the op when
I opened my eyes I could see Darius clearer then without my glasses before
the op. Incredible. Mr Jacobs, my surgeon, was great and as skillful as
I knew he would be. He told me before the op that he would be only removing
approx 10% corneal tissue, which was great to know. He double checked
my eyes after the op (as well as before) and told me that I have no corneal
flap complications and everything went smoothly. Even half an hour after
the op I could see my best friend from across the table, normally everything
beyond 2-3 inches would be a blur. My eyes watered a bit, I kept them
mainly shut as it felt more comfortable that way as well as being told
it was best to keep them shut that day anyway. I felt a slight gritty
feeling in my left eye which vanished by 10:00pm and by then my vision
was co-ordinated and I could see across the corridor my neighbour's face
and the grey fog which vanished more by the hour was hardly there anymore.
The next day I woke up and could see - making my dream which I thought
could only ever be a dream come true - to wake up and be able to SEE,
no hunting for glasses. I went for my check-up (the day after my op) and
was told I have 20/20 vision. Also, Accuvision told me that before the
op when I wore my glasses or lenses my vision was one line below 20/20
(a fact I was not aware of until I saw Accuvision) so my vision had improved
by one line. Everything is so much clearer it really is a whole new world.
By my next appt a week after my op (28.6.02) I was told my vision had
improved by two lines making my vision better than 20/20. Then at my appt
on 1.8.02 (by the way thank you for the 2 cups of lovely creamy coffee
Darius) I was told that my vision was back to 20/20 vision, one point
better than before my op, it keeps fluctuating slightly as my brain is
getting used to new eyes, which work! I was also told that my right eye
which was 1 point under 20/20 after the op has now improved to a fraction
under 20/20 and is still improving. My vision is definitely much clearer
than before my op and my eyes feel very comfortable and I don't have any
dry eye symptoms. In fact my eyes feel so well and are even more comfortable
now than before the op. I was told that my outcome was predicated but
Accuvision were very professional and understated it and didn't tell me
this until afterwards. After the op my driving instructor said the improvement
in my driving is phenomenal and he said he can tell my vision has improved
and can see the difference in my driving. I am so very happy with the
outcome, which is exceptional, and thank everyone at Accuvision for everything
including their patience, (eg: at my second assessment I had 21 questions
which were all answered and explained to me). This op has really changed
my life - I would definitely recommend ACCUVISION and am so pleased I
trusted my instincts as well as my research. I am glad I put having LASIK
to the back of my mind even though various places contacted me throughout
the years - until I found the right place which I could trust with my
eyes. You know the saying that you are not sure that what is right for
you until you come across it yourself then you will know? That is how
I felt about LASIK until I came across Accuvision. I have another check-up
on 22nd August and will write again then.

It is now six weeks since I had my surgery and I am amazed at the results.
I had been turned down by Ultralase as I had a very high prescription
(-11) and did not have enough corneal thickness for their laser. I had
a consultation with Accuvison the next day but I rang up to cancel it
as I presumed that if you couldn't be treated by one clinic you couldn't
be treated at all. I was advised to still come in and I am so glad I did.
It was explained to me by Vikash that the technology used at Accuvision
is far superior to that used by other clinics and they were happy to take
me on as they could correct my vision and still leave me with at least
the minimum recommended corneal thickness.
I booked my surgery for about ten days later. I was
very nervous on the day of surgery but everything went extremely smoothly.
I have to say my eyes at times were uncomfortable for about two weeks
after surgery but this was because my brain was not used to properly functioning
eyes!
I went for a post op check up a few days ago and I now
have 20/20 vision. Quite a tall order, going from -11 to no prescription.
Today I took my daughter to the waterslides and didn't need to worry about
my lenses coming out or worry about going underwater. It's so liberating.
I would thoroughly recommend Accuvison. From start to
finish I felt I was dealing with a centre of excellence. And further to
the comment by the Observer, yes all the surgeons are members of the General
Medical Council. My surgeon was Mr Ayliffe.

In March this year I finally lost my patience at messing about with contact
lenses and glasses and decided to undergo laser surgery to correct my
vision.
After undertaking several hours of research on the internet
(including this site) I decided that I would arrange for a consultation
with Accuvision.
From outset I was most impressed with the professionalism
of their staff. I had two consultations to confirm my suitability, during
these consultations several examinations and computer readings were taken
of my eyes, every procedure was explained to me clearly as were the computer
print outs. From this information I was able to determine what was causing
my short sight (my prescription was -5.75) and how the wavelength lasik
laser procedure could correct the problems. The prognosis was good and
I was very suitable for surgery even so the consultants at Accuvision
did make me aware that with surgery all risks could not be eliminated
and the risks were clearly explained to me.
I had my final consultation on Friday 11 April 2002
and underwent surgery on Thursday 18 April 2002. On Friday 19 April I
had twenty-twenty vision. I have since had two further post operative
check ups, my eyes have completely healed from surgery my eyesight exceeds
twenty-twenty vision and a optician conducting a routine eye examination
would not be able to detect that I have had laser surgery. I am absolutely
delighted with the results.
If you are thinking of having eye surgery as well of
being wary of the risks you are probably thinking about the following
points
1. Does It Hurt
Answer - No the operation does not hurt. The staff at
Accuvision explained everything that would happen and what to expect -
they were correct every step of the way. For about four hours after the
operation my eyes watered heavily and it was more comfortable to keep
them closed. For a couple of days after the operation I had a slight gritty
sensation in one eye. Since then I have not felt a thing nor have I experienced
any side effect such as dry eyes.
2. Will Accuvision treat anybody just to bring in revenue?
Answer - I am convinced they will not. The consultation
procedure is very thorough and they will not allow any one to undergo
treatment unless there is a high probability that the outcome will be
very successful. Their reputation seems to be of paramount importance
to them. Both the pre-care and after-care are fantastic they would not
risk taking on a client who was unlikely to benefit from the treatment.
3.Is it expensive
My procedure was for both eyes and cost £2500
which I think is typical for most customers. It does appear to be a lot
of money. However I was spending about £600 a year on contact lenses,
solutions and replacement glasses. I no longer need to spend this money
so I will recoup my money in just over four years - I will never be short
sighted again. I think that is a good deal.
If you have ever felt frustrated with having to correct
your short sight I would strongly recommend that you consult Accuvision
to see if you are suitable for laser surgery. I wish that I had done it
years ago.

Had a very strong long sighted prescription with astigmatism (+5.0 -3.00)
both eyes. Have done lots of research - this site has been a very valuable
source of information and thanks to everyone and I would encourage anyone
who has had surgery to share their comments as first hand experience is
always the best. I have also visited two other clinics who advertise the
fact that they can treat upto my prescription - Ultralase and The Eye
Clinic - see those site for comments. Was refused treatment at both of
these clinics as I was not guaranteed a 100 per cent correction and that
wasn't good for them. My long term expectations were for me to have less
reliance on glasses but I wasn't expecting total freedom. After looking
at this web site I made an appointment with Accuvision and as I had to
travel my consultation was booked and hour before surgery if I was suitable.
So on Friday 26th July - three days ago - I went to London and met the
most professional people i could possible wish to entrust my eyes to.
Had a very thorough consultation with Vik - who seemed confident and reassuring
- everything explained - my prescription nothing was guaranteed and i
was happy to proceed. So within 20 minutes I was ready to lie under the
laser. There were several viewers in the room - from other companies -
which I have to say made me feel better because they were viewing what
appeared to be an expert. Anyway the procedure itself was over very quickly
- the only discomfort (not pain) was the suction and the eye clamps but
both are bearable for a short period of time. Joined my husband in the
waiting room and kept my eyes shut. The worst bit of the whole day was
feeling travel sick in the car because I couldn't get my bearings. By
9pm - six hours post op - I could watch tv across the room. Slept well
- with the annoying bee like eye shields. Woke up very early the next
morning because I was so excited and had to read something - it was perfect
- I couldn't have asked for more. Went for my check at the clinic and
I had 20/20 in both eyes - what a result less than 24 hours post op. I
have had a bit of blurring - which I was expecting but otherwise no pain
at all - eyes are a little dry but the drops work well. Have my next check
on Friday - will keep you all informed.

I had my eyes corrected at Accuvision just over four months ago and am
extremely satisfied with the results.
I had been wearing contacts/eye glasses forever and
with a poor vision (R -7.75 / -050 x17 and L -9.50/-100 x 162) coupled
with a thinnest cornea, I did my research well before embarking on surgery.
I realised early on in the selection process that the machine and the
technology employed for the Lasik surgery is particularly important.
In addition to Accuvision, I had my eyes examined at
a centre famous for treating celebrities. I was particularly attracted
by the surgeon there although the technology used at that clinic was older.
I was not reassured when that centre told that there would be a high probability
of still having to wear glasses after the operation. In addition, I was
told that I may not have enough cornea tissue left after the surgery to
do further correction. I asked whether they were planning to shift to
the newer Wavefront technology (used and tested at Accuvision) and was
told that they were planning to start trial of the new technology some
time during the fall. I was also told that the probability of success
with the newer technology would likely be higher given the correction
needed for my eyesight.
I ended up choosing Accuvision as I was reassured by
the efficiency/friendliness of the staff and by their use of the latest
technology. I definitely made the right choice. I have full correction
in my left eye and only -0.25 in my right eye! In addition, I have enough
cornea tissue left to do further surgery if I ever need to do so again.
For anyone opting to go for this operation I would recommend
patience after surgery. It took 10 days for the blurriness to subside
and as I was not sure what to expect (in spite of having had everything
explained in advance) I panicked. The surgery itself was not painful and
the post surgery discomfort (tearful eyes) lasted only a few hours. Overall
I have the highest praise for the staff at Accuvision.

Had surgery July 4th 2002. I was +3.75 with an astigmatism in both eyes.
I was dependent on glasses all day every day. I was very pleased with
the treatment at Accuvision I still can't get used to the fact I don't
have to put my glasses on to see, I feel much more confident and for the
first time ever I can see clearly. Although there was no pain during the
procedure I did find having the clamp on my eyes slightly uncomfortable,
but feel it was worth going through. A day after the surgery my presciption
had changed to -.75, my vision was hazy for some days which is normal
with my prescription, therefore I didn't get perfect results straight
away, but every day I noticed an improvement in my vision. 4 days after
surgery I went to party in the park and was amazed with how well I could
see. Its 4 weeks on now and I'm due for a check-up, my right eye seems
perfect to me, but my left eye is still a bit hazy, but for the first
time ever I have used the computer without the aid of GLASSES !!

I had Laser Treatment on the 22nd June just over 5 weeks ago now. My prescription
was -7.5 in both eyes, and I had worn glasses and contact lenses for over
30 years.
I was impressed by Accuvision's professionalism and caring attitude, all
my questions at my consultation were answered fully and I was impressed
by the new wavefront technology that I was able to have. I now have 20/20
vision, its absolutely amazing to be able to see clearer than what I could
when I used to wear glasses.
Just like to say a big thank you to my surgeon Mr Ayliffe, Daryus and
staff and an extra special thank you to Vik who answered all the questions
that my wife put to him. Thank you all very much.
