I had surgery at Accuvision around three and half weeks ago. My prescription was around -7 in both eyes, with some astigmatism and very thin corneas. I was terribly disappointed to be turned down by Optimax about two years ago, because of this combination of high prescription and thin corneas.

When I first saw the advert for Accuvision and how it could treat cases that other places couldn't, I was initially a bit sceptical. It was only by idly surfng the net one day, that I came across this website and saw all the rave reviews that people had given to Accuvision. This convinced me to give them a call. At my consultation, which was very thorough, I was told that they could treat me, but I was only just eligible, because of my thin corneas. However, because of the more advanced laser technology they were able to leave more than the recommended corneal thickness. They informed me that they couldn't guarantee that I would have perfect sight after surgery, but there was a chance that I might have some some mild refraction and need glasses occasionally. I was never put under any pressure whatsoever.

I decided to have the surgery (£4K) and went ahead with it two weeks later. The actual surgery was stressful, but painfree. They explain exactly what to expect during the procedure, which definately helped. For the first 5-6 hours after surgery, my eyes were watering so much that I couldn't open them at all. They were also prickling like crazy. The next day, my eyes were rather red and swollen, but my vision was perfect. I seemed to experience more post-operative discomfort than most people, because for the first 5 days after

surgery my eyes were very dry, itchy and uncomfortable and the liquid tears didn't help alleviate it at all. I found that previously, I couldn't wear contact lenses for more than a few hours at a time, because my eyes started feeling really dry, so this probably made me more susceptical to it. However, just as I was beginning to despair and wonder if I'd done the right thing, my eyes suddenly started feeling a lot better. They now feel totally normal and when I had my check up after the first week, I was told that my eyes had healed well, I wouldn't need glasses at all and I had 20:20 vision. They also gave me some gel tears which were more effective for me than the liquid tears.

I feel that I definately made the right decision to have laser surgery at Accuvision. My vision is fab. my eyes feel totally normal now and it has given me a whole new lease of life. I still find myself reaching for my glasses out of habit or feeling that I need to take my lenses out before going to sleep. I've also found that it's great to be able to go away and not have to pack alll the parathenalia associated with wearing glassses and contact lenses. I'm very grateful to Accuvision. No regrets at all.

I went for my consultation with Vik on May 20th, which lasted longer than I thought (2 hours), but was very thorough. I have decided to go ahead with LASIK in early July, and now have to endure the waiting which is surely the worst bit. Accuvision have been personally recommended to me by a close friend who now can't stop reading number plates from miles away, after being short sighted for years. I look forward to a successful outcome, and will put my post-surgery comments on this page..

I had a consultation with Vik at Accuvision in March and am considering having LASIK in July or August. I have - 6 in both eyes with slight astigmatism, however my pupils when dilated are 7.5mm and 8.5mm.

I would be interested in hearing from anyone who has undergone LASIK (either successfully or unsuccessfully) with a pupil size of over 8mm.

I am confident that the service offered by Accuvision is one of the best in the industry, but before biting the bullet would find it helpful to hear from others who have undergone the proceedure with similar prescription and pupil size!

Having had a bad experience with Ultralase (see my post 26-May-03), I thought all was lost until I came accross this website and began reading some of the posts here about accuvision!

So booked a consultation - my prescription was -9 & -8.25 with slight astigmatism.
Vic was very thorough, and never put me under any pressure. These guys specialise in hard prescriptions - Ultralase couldn't do me because my pupils dilate to 7mm and they could only treat a 6mm surface, plus they would have left me < 250microns corneal thickness (excluding flap).

Vic & Daryus prescribed a customised Lasik method (I wouldn't need wavefront), which would require an inverted flap and extra thin flap of 100 microns- the total cost would be £4k.

I went ahead with surgery last week (fri) - painless procedure, (just uncomfortable), no post op pain, just a little stinging for an hour, and light sensitivity for 2/3 hours. I had to wear a protective contact lense over night so this slowed the healing process which meant I had cloudy/hazy vision the next day (sat) - by sunday morning I had very clear vision which improved every day after - I was back at work on the Tuesday.

I had my 1 week check and have 20/15! (better than 20/20) - these guys are awesome!

because of the combination of inverted and thin flap it meant that my corneal thickness was approx 310microns in both eyes (compare that to Ultralase's <250microns)!

It was expensive but these guys are way ahead of the rest.

I finally went ahead with my surgery on 24th March with Accuvision. (Decided against Centre for Sight for a number of reasons - see comments under their heading)
I am tempted to write Ditto, ditto, ditto, ditto because every positive comment I have read about Accuvision on this website is TRUE!!!! However I will be more specific for the benefit of the people I have promised. (by the way, thank you to all of you who contacted me since my first posting with all your encouraging comments)
I had -3 in both eyesand large pupils! I had wavefront treatment performed by M Rostron with all the usual team present (and a few spectators if I remember correctly) The procedure was painless and I am glad I didn't work myself into a state beforehand because it wouldn't have been worth it. It's over so quickly, there's no time to panic in there.
I'm delighted with the results(better than 20/20 in both eyes) and they have done such a good job of the flaps that 24 hours after surgery an experienced optician could not see the hinge!
The first few days were hazy and uncomfortable - very similar feeling to that of having worn your contacts for far too long! Each day got clearer and clearer and after one week my eyesight was fantastic! Night vision has also improved dramatically although that was slower in coming. Nothing left to say apart from thanks to all at Accuvision, especially Nick Dash who spent hours answering all of my questions!!
To all of you considering surgery - go to Accuvision - it may be more expensive than some of the 'high street' outfits but YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR! You only have one pair of eyes!

I had the op two weeks ago now.Following exhaustive research and visits to various clinics I am convinced that Accuvision are as good as it gets in terms of technology and surgical skill. They have treated me very well amd made me feel comfortable and confident at all times.
Immediately after the op I could tell that my right eye was excellent and far better than my left. This has continued to be the case. At the one week post op test my right eye was better than 20/20, but the left eye was still struggling to read the letters on the chart with any real clarity. I have spoken to Accuvision about this on a couple of occassions and they have told me to wait, be patient and give the eye time to recover, so that it was I am trying to do. I have seen little or no improvement in the last two weeks and am hoping that it gets better soon as at the moment I seem to do my seeing with my right eye only!! Everything is a bit wonky.

Will keep you posted with any changes....

I have been looking into Laser Surgery for a couple of years. I finally plucked up courage and went to consultation. The consultation process was extremely thorough and all questions were well answered.
A week later I found myself about to enter surgery. The procedure itslef is absolutely nothing to worry about. I felt slight pressure to my eyes and that was all. No pain. All staff kept me informed throughout and the procedure was over before I knew it. I walked into the waiting area able to see my Dad at the other end of the room unaided by specs. Absolutely fantastic.

My prescription was -3.50 and -3.75 inclusive of astigmatism. I am now six weeks post op and I have better than 20:20 vision with a slight astigmatism of -0.25 in my left eye. I've been told by Mike that this will get better with healing. I have no reason to disbelieve him or Accuvision as everything they have told me has turned out to be true.

I experienced a slower return to excellent vision than other people it would seem. This may have someting to do with the wearing of bandage lenses for 24hrs after but is more likely to be just the rate at which my eyes heal ! Everyone is different. I have gone through moments of concern and uneasiness after the surgery but my concerns were always answered informatively by Accuvision at all times. Your vision does fluctuate and you may have moments of panis where you think "My God why did I do this" but be patient as the results are astounding and to be free of vision aids is amazing

My eyes had a reaction to the artificial tears and so I heeded the advice in some of the comments before these and bought some Liquifilm tears without preservative. My eyes improved straight away.

I personally would like to thank all staff who have been excellent throughout but especially Joan, Vikash, Mike, Daryus and Chad. All have been brilliant and the aftercare fantastic.

I can't recomment Accuvision enough and am busily passing on their details to a wealth or friends and colleagues. Thanks Accuvision.

I had treatment on Friday 25th April and have found the comments informative pre-surgery and reassuring in the days that have passed since I took the plunge!
My eyes made me a typical Accuvision patient - nothing particularly unusual about my prescription (-2.25 and -2.50 with astigmatism). However, my pupils were classified as 'huge' (not particularly technical but a relevant description at 8mm). I had been to Maxivision previously and fortunately the surgeon was reluctant to treat me as I was likely to have significant night vision problems. He recommended Accuvision as the newer technology was likely to improve the outcome.
At my initial consultation, the team at Accuvision reassured me that they could get me an excellent result and whilst they would be unlikely to improve on my night vision (which, according to them was not great but I had not been aware of!), they would certainly not make it worse.
So, I went ahead and am cautiously optimistic. I have not had the stunning results that have been posted on this site but realize that I do need to be patient and my vision will continue to improve.
The surgery itself was fine (really!). In fact, I found the laser light show fascinating. If you have some relaxation techniques such as breathing deeply (remember labour for those mothers amongst you) then this will help. It is all over very quickly. About 10 minutes after surgery the anesthetic eye drops wore off and then it did hurt. My eyes did sting and watered, however Mike had said it would last four hours and to the minute he was right! I made the most of the excuse to lie still with my eyes shut and left my husband to look after the kids (drastic measures I know to take a rest during the day!).
The days following surgery I have had quite a bit if hazziness and my vision is around -0.5. This is not as good as I am used to with glasses and hope to see some improvements over the next week (Daryus said that this slight myopia was due to some corneal oedema and is perfectly normal). My eyes have been gritty and this got worse yesterday, a few days post-surgery. A call to Accuvision and they wanted to see me just to check. The care I have had has been excellent. The following may help if you have just had surgery or considering it:
- the eye drops, particularly the artificial tears, make your eye-lids stick together. Don't be alarmed!
- be prepared for your vision to develop over time
- grittiness may continue for some time (after all eye surgery is signficant and your eyes do need time to recover)

Accuvision should be congratulated for their patient focussed approach. I particularly liked the way I was treated as an individual from the moment I stepped in, told what to expect, not kept waiting and offered 24 hour care at the end of a telephone.

Location: Parsons Green
Surgeon: William Aycliffe

I had spent a great deal of time researching lasik and choosing a clinic and i would thoroughly recommend this clinic from my experiences
The initial consultation and examination was very extensive and they were more than happy to answer the many questions i had to put my mind at ease.
In my case the preoperative asessment revealed that i had very thin corneas in both eyes particularly where the hinges of the flaps would be.They explained that by using pioneering techniques they would be able to modify the flap design to ensure a successful outcome.
The actual surgery was very quick, with no pain whatsoever.
The results are truly amazing. I now have 20/15 vision and i havent looked back since!! Six months on i am continuing to enjoy a new lease of life and i would like to express my gratitude in particular to vikash and Darius.

My mother blames it on the Mumps she had when I was a mere foetus but whatever the cause I have had terrible eyesight as far back as I can remember, all the photos of me as a kid show the glasses firmly in place. In my early 20s I took to hard contact lenses and in my mid 30s I changed to soft lenses. Now at 50 the technology is at long last here to fix things, so I researched extensively both here and in America before making my choice. At Accuvision they testedmy eyes at around -7 each with astigmatism , early presbyopia and secondary abberations. In addition they found that I had large pupils, a thin cornea and damage to the front of the eye caused by the hard lenses. Nice. Fortunately I was sitting down when they quoted £2,200 per eye, should have worn a cheaper watch and tatty clothes. Come the day I decided to have the operation mid afternoon so it would be closer to bed time and there would be less stumbling round with my eyes closed. The nurse was fantastic. The operation was only unpleasant when they were cutting the cornea, which I felt sharply, especially in the left eye. The lasering effect was quite psychadelic, accompanied with the smell of my burning flesh. Fortunately I remembered sunglasses as I felt quite vulnerable in the eye department after the operation. Also my eyes were very uncomfortable indeed and streamed like crazy, I had forgotten the nurofen plus but luckily the clinic had some ordinary nurofen which helped ease things a bit. Went back to the hotel and sat in the bar with my eyes closed drinking pints with whisky chasers, this eased things a lot more. Then it was time for bed and a stilnox pill finally removed all discomfort. The next morning I could see! Went to the clinic and no problems except for one eye bruised and red which took a week to go. That day I read, used the computer, watched TV and drove a car. Came back 5 days later for a second check and they said the job was perfect and the incisions had healed. This is about right, I have 20/20 vision in both eyes with everything corrected and can see far better than I ever could with glasses or lenses, reaching my far point easily and reading without glasses. Even my colour vision and depth of field seem improved. I have no trouble with bright lights and no dry eye whatsoever. There is no residual discomfort. The capabilities of my eyes as optical instruments is now far greater than I realised was possible, £4,400 looks good value for this. Having read sudies that show that anti-oxidant supplements speed the healing process I stuffed myself with a wide variety till I rattled both before and after the operation. I am convinced that this had a significant effect on the positive outcome. I just cannot quit the habits of half a century of myopia. Each morning I reach for my glasses before I realise I can already see and each night I go to remove my lenses then kick myself. I am not recommending that anyone undertakes having this done to their eyes, all I can say is that thus far , for me, it is brilliant.

Accuvision - Parsons Green

Surgeon - Mr William Ayliffe

Surgery - April 2002

I had my surgery just under one year ago and have just been back for my first year check up. My prescription has remained stable over the course of the year with only the tiniest deterioration in the right eye. This is so small I hadn't even noticed.

After the first year of being rid of glasses and contact lenses I can only thank all the team at Accuvision for their support and understanding of my concerns. All aspects of my life are now back to as they were in my early twenties before my sight deteriorated (and of course my fitness!). Sport, driving and daily activities are infinitely easier. I am sure I am not the only person who doesn't miss waking up after a night out with a pair of contact lenses glued to my eyelids!

Particular thanks must go to Daryus who inspired such confidence that when I had the surgery I was not in the least concerned that it may have complications. I can only say my trust in his and his teams professional approach was fully justified, I could not be happier or more pleased with the outcome - thank you to you all.

I had bilateral Wavefront LASIK almost a week ago. Surgeon: William Ayliffe, with input from Daryus. Prescription: - 2.75 / -3.00 + astigmatism.

I did find it very painful, as I felt the first part of each flap being cut. However, this happened so quickly that I had no time to flinch! The whole thing is quite fascinating to look back on actually!

With no sedative administered, I also found it VERY hard to stop myself from freaking out! I kept forgetting to breathe, in an effort to keep still! However, I'm sure Accuvision have a good reason for not giving any Valium - maybe it affects the eye muscles?

After the surgery the surgeon said that one eye would heal more quickly if he rinsed under the flap once more. This was duly done, and my eyes were checked twice before I left. I'm sure this extra care would not happen at every clinic.

The discomfort afterwards ('sand in the eye') lasted about 4 hours - as did the mother of all headaches after the stress of it all.

But, it was DEFINITELY worth every second of discomfort.
My follow-up check (with Vik AND Daryus) was only 16 hours after the op, and I was told my sight was already above legal driving standard. It has been slowly improving ever since. Outside, it's an absolute joy. I can see so much detail that I could never see with glasses. At work (in a poorly lit office with artificial light) it's quite wobbly, and sifting through my emails is quite hard work at the moment. However, I have absolute confidence in Accuvision and I'm sure this will improve with time.

Before surgery I told myself I would be patient, give it time and avoid post-LASIK paranoia about my sight... any thoughts, anyone?

I do have moderate irritation in one eye now, which I had before the surgery anyway . I was told by Mr Ayliffe that it was a group of cysts, and no obstacle to surgery. I have brought my 1-week check-up forward a little to have it checked out - this was arranged at very short notice.

All in all, Accuvision are FANTASTIC! It's worth the extra money to have such a quality service from people who really care and who have so much knowledge and experience.

Thanks to ALL at Accuvision!

Yet another very happy customer.

I had lasik treatment on both eyes in October 2002. My aim was to achieve good eyesight with out the need for glasses. I am 59 years and my problem was reading and wearing varifocals. I experimented with contact lenses and monovision for about two years before I decided that Lasik and Monovision were the answers. I investigated several clinics and found that Accuvision, although the most expensive, were by far the most reassuring and honest sounding.
My results have been fantastic in that I had my flying licence back within four months and have just today had an independent optometrists examination with the finding that my vision is stable and remains 20/10. He also says that the flaps were the best that he had seen to date.

I had Accuwave Lasik treatment at Accuvision on 19th March 2003, pre-op my eyes were +4.50 right/+5.5 left eye, and opted for a monovision result as I did not wish to wear glasses even for reading! Despite being told of the greater risks, etc., I decided to go ahead and I am very pleased I did! The operation itself was painless and not nearly as traumatic and frightening as I envisioned, the supporting staff and surgeons were very helpful and considerate. Afterwards my vision was slightly blurry but cleared gradually throughout the evening, I followed instructions keeping my eyes shut most of the time after the op and sunglasses on until I went to bed, putting in the antibiotic drops hourly as prescribed until I went to sleep and the eye shields on when I was asleep. On waking the next day the minor scratchiness had disappeared and I could see clearly and read even small print with no problems. On examination on 20th March at Accuvision I was told that the corneal flaps had sealed and the results were good achieving
-050x160 right distance and -050x180 left near - 20/20 vision.
I was also informed that this may fluctuate over the next 3/4 months, but so far so good and excellent as far as I am concerned.

I had my procedure carried out on 12th March 2003. As with other postimonials, the reason it has taken me so long to post my findings on this site (despite my having fervently promised Vic I would do so immediately!) is that I have been having the time of my life since I regained my sight. It has been wonderful and I cannot thank the staff of Accuvision enough for making the whole process so good and of course for their efficiency.

I am one of those rare creatures who actually found the procedure itself quite distressing and I could swear I felt every cut that laser made but I don't want to unduly alarm anyone who has yet to decide on it as like childbirth, you do forget the pain and discomfort, once it is over and you see the results!!!!!!!!
Furthermore, I made the following mistakes when I went along for my procedure: -
1. I didn't get anywhere near enough sleep the night before
2. I didn't wear sufficiently warm clothing and you really shiver in that cool operating room
3. I got myself thoroughly worked up about the whole thing and felt a complete prat when I came out and found (through narrowed slits of sore and watering eyes) that the rest of the post op patients, were happily sitting there in the waiting area, sipping their tea and looking only slightly drained!!!!!!!!
Being the drama queen that I am, I sighed and swooned and the staff could not have been more comforting and reassuring. I recall Mike, Vic and the delectable Darius. The latter saved me from total hysteria during the surgery as the surgeon was I felt, getting rather fed up with my attempts to perform pole vault exercises with my legs, every time the laser was turned on. Darius reassured me and made me feel that I was in safe hands.
You are a lovely bunch of people at Accuvision and I cannot sing your praises enough to all and sundry.

I was longsighted and had surgery on both of my eyes on 14 February 2003. From the moment that I entered the clinic it was apparent how professional and caring all of the staff were.
My consutation with Vik was very detailed and covered all eventualities which I found very helpful without being pushy.
Yes, it was uncomfortable having my eyes clamped open but there was no pain what so ever during the operation. To emphasise the high standards that they set, a minute particle of debris was found to still be in my eye it was removed immediately with no discomfort to me.
Following surgery my eyes felt gritty as previously explained to me. After resting my eyes for four hours I was amazed how much my sight had already improved. The following morning when I went for my check up I was told that I now had 20/20 vision in both eyes.
To me it has been money well spent and I would go through the procedure again if necessary. One extremely satisfied customer

Having been tempted by laser eye surgery for well over a decade I decided to take the plunge and see if my eyes were suitable. After reading the positive comments on this web site I decided to have a consultation with Accuvision and another clinic where a colleague had been treated. I was much more impressed with the team at Accuvision who spent longer with me, explained the procedure and possible consequences in detail and answered all my questions.

I then decided to find out more for myself about the different types of laser and their advantages. There is lots of information on the internet - some of the best sites are those for eye professionals such as Eurotimes, Ophthalmology Times and Review of Ophthalmology. Here you can find out about the clinical trials carried out by eye surgeons around the world who have been using the Allegretto flying spot laser which Accuvision use since 2001 and what they thought of this latest technology. In clinical trials more than 50% of patients actually gained one or two lines of best corrected vision ie. were able to see better post Lasik than they did when their vision was corrected with glasses or contact lenses. Surgeons were impressed by the accuracy and speed of the laser and one commented that his results were the best ever experienced with any laser.

I also found studies by surgeons comparing broad beam with flying spot or scanning lasers and they all concluded that superior and more accurate results were achieved with flying spot lasers and that they would eventually become the industry standard.

The key points that I discovered about Allegretto were these :-

The energy profile is Gaussian rather than the top hat or flat profile used in older broad beam lasers. This Gaussian profile creates a smoother corneal surface and takes away less corneal tissue per diopter of correction which means the visual recovery time is faster, there will be less aberrations (ie.night vision problems and loss of contrast sensitivity) and no risk of corneal ectasia.

The narrow beam at 0.95mm is an advantage because it gives the surgeon the ability to customise the ablation (tissue removal) profile both according to ablation zone diameter ie. to match your dilated pupil size and also to vary the ablation zone to address pre-existing irregular corneal shape.

Unlike other lasers, Allegretto is designed to produce a prolate (closer to the normal shaped cornea) rather than an oblate profile which lessens the possibility of any night vision problems or loss of crispness of vision.

The laser is extremely fast which means that the surface of the tissue does not get a chance to dry out which would cause problems with healing and possibly affect the end result of your surgery and is coupled with a closed loop tracking system with a very fast response time.

Obviously the team operating the laser are just as important and I felt confident that the staff at Accuvision were highly competent and had been achieving good results.

So now to the important bit - the end result. I wore glasses from the age of 8 to 18 - remember those snazzy NHS frames with the wire ends that curled around your ears - and then hard gas permeable contact lenses for the next 21 years. My prescription was -9.00 and -3.75 which made it very difficult to tolerate wearing glasses because of the difference in image size in each eye. You have to stop wearing contact lenses before having a consultation and treatment to allow the eyes to return to their natural shape. I had assessments at 3 and 6 weeks out of gas permeable contact lenses and was then advised that this was long enough out of lenses to proceed with treatment but the length of time will vary from person to person.

I had non wavefront guided Lasik treatment on 17 February at a cost of £3600. I believe that the cost of treatment at Accuvision varies from £3000 up to £5000. The procedure was very quick and completely painless and certainly nothing to worry about. I had slight soreness about 2 hours later which disappeared almost immediately. I had to wear bandage soft contact lenses for 48 hours to help keep my corneal flaps in position as they were hinged from the bottom of the eye rather than the top. This meant that I had very foggy vision for 24 hours and needed to be accompanied to the first check up. As soon as the contact lenses were removed my vision improved and continued to clear slowly. On the second day I spent a little time working on a computer which made my vision mistier and my eyes were quite tired so I would suggest if you work a lot with computers you might need to take several days off work.

My eyes have felt a little dry but no more than when wearing contact lenses if that is what you are used to.

My prescription was -9.00 and -3.75. At the first day check up my vision was tested and found to be 20/20 . The initial reading for my prescription was -1.00 and -0.25. This may well change as my vision stabilises over the next three months but even at this level I am absolutely delighted.

My vision is now BETTER than it was with both glasses and rigid contact lenses.

My two major worries about having Lasik surgery were loss of crispness of vision which definitely had NOT happened and night vision. I am experiencing some minor haze around street lamps at night but this may well clear up in the next few weeks and my night vision is clearer now than when wearing rigid contact lenses which always cause their wearers problems at night with glare and starbursts from artificial light sources.

I was also worried about the corneal thickness that would be left in my right eye and the risk of ectasia. The industry standard is not to go below 250 microns but Accuvision state they will not go below 300 microns and I was left with 323 microns which I am very happy with. Other lasers could also have achieved the same end result but would have taken away more tissue. The team actually confirm that the microkeratome has cut the correct flap thickness before proceeding with treatment as an extra safeguard.

So, for me it was definitely the right decision to go ahead and have Lasik surgery but I am NOT advocating that everyone rush out and have it done. Results are not predictable and there are many people out there who have ended up with worse vision than they started with and in some cases are no longer able to work. Some bad results are due to the patient eg. your cornea could form scar tissue through no fault of the surgeon but other problems are arising because of lack of expertise/knowledge and in some cases treating patients who are not suitable.

One of the reasons I chose to use Accuvision was because around 30% of their patients have been turned away from other clinics who refuse to treat them because they are viewed as being difficult cases with a lower chance of obtaining a satisfactory result eg. high prescriptions, thin corneas.

If you are interested in having Lasik performed I would say that you must research the subject thoroughly, spend a long time considering the pros and cons and find a clinic with the ideal combination of expert staff using the best possible technology. That is what I firmly believe I found at Accuvision and I have no hesitation in recommending them.

Thanks to all the team

I had my procedure carried out on 12th March 2003. As with other postimonials, the reason it has taken me so long to post my findings on this site (despite my having fervently promised Vic I would do so immediately!) is that I have been having the time of my life since I regained my sight. It has been wonderful and I cannot thank the staff of Accuvision enough for making the whole process so good and of course for their efficiency.
I am one of those rare creatures who actually found the procedure itself quite distressing and I could swear I felt every cut that laser made but I don't want to undulyalarm anyone who has yet to decide on it as like childbirth, you do forget the pain and discomfort, once it is over and you see the results!!!!!!!!

I had my op done nearly 4 weeks ago at Accuvision and I'm sorry its taken me till now to post this. The truth is that its taken me till now to realise that I don't wear specs any longer as today was the first day since the operation that I looked into the mirror to apply makeup, and it suddenly dawned on me - I dont wear glasses anymore!!!!
I've been wanting to get my eyes done for a while, not because I hated my glasses but because I hated being so utterly dependant on them. I was -6.50 and -7.00 with a slight cyl and had worn specs for more than 30 years and I felt Iwas blind without my spectacles! My husband is an optometrist (and a very handsome one at that!) and had been against getting corrective surgery for ages until he went to Accuvision to sus them out! To my surprise he came back and said he'd booked me in on valentines day! For anyone who knows my husband at all, this change of heart was a complete revelation as we'd spent hours in the past with other optom friends discussing the merits of laser surgery and he was never convinced by any of it. In fact he was so sure of Accuvision that he said he was going to stay at home in the Midlands with the kids for the weekend whilst I had it done!!! (We'd been to Accuvision over Xmas for the assessment and got the green light).
So on Friday 14th Feb I went to Accuvision and had my eyes done. I was amazed at just how quick the surgery was and how painless, (though I was sure that I could feel them cutting the flap at the time, I know that I couldn't really!). I was incredibly nervous and totally unprepared because I'd done very little research - well, having a husband in the business meant I was quite complacent - if he was happy then that was good enough for me. The staff at Accuvision were all brilliant, especially when minutes before my operation it hit me that I might never see again! Absolute rubbish. Minutes after the operation (about 30) and I was seeing! Sure my eyes were sore and they watered a lot, but I could see. I remember going next door to Starbucks for a coffee and I could see to mind the lampost and I could see to cross the road. I stayed with friends that night and I think I was a pretty good house guest as all I did was crawl into bed and sleep. The next morning I went in for my post-op check and I was able to read the bottom line on the chart, something I was never able to do with my glasses.
I've got to hand it to the guys - Vik, Mike, Will, Joan and Darius -you've changed my life. Thankyou for your patience and humour - you made me feel at ease and my husband thanks you from the bottom of his heart as for the first time in 5 years he's been able to sleep through the night since I can see enough to make the baby’s milk without having to search for my glasses now, so it’s me doing the night shifts!

Of course as soon as he could, my hubby had me in to check my eyes under the slit-lamp and at 4 days post-op he wasn't able to see my flaps...(corneal!).My vision has steadily improved so that I have very little glare now, and the vision is great. Things are going very well at the moment and I can safely say that I am absolutely delighted with the results of my Lasik op courtesy of the experts at Accuvision. I would strongly urge anyone considering Lasik to get in touch with the guys at Accuvision. They seem to have the perfect blend of professionalism, technical ability, knowledge and that uncanny knack of being able to make you feel comfortable and relaxed about the entire process of Lasik, from the moment you first enquire to the moment you walk out the door with your new eyes. Accuvision – they’re the muts nuts!

I was very impressed with the consultation I had at Accuvision but I have two concerns and I'd be very interested to hear comments from those who have undergone the treatment.
Firstly, I'd love to hear from monovisionists! Did it work out for you or have you had to go back for further surgery?
Secondly, I'm worried about losing that wonderful, clear near-vision that short-sighted people have. Joan rather delightfully described it as 'super-vision'. Does anyone out there miss theirs or was it a reasonable pay-off?
Thanks for sharing your experiences with me.

I had waveguided surgery done in early December. The results are fantastic. It's been very easy to get used to not needing glasses, particularly around swimming pools and spas. :-)

I have one quibble though and that's why I'm writing. The procedures for dealing with patients who have dry eyes aren't all that great. At my check up in January the optometrist discovered a dry area in one of my eyes. I was given a bottle of eye drops and told to pop in some drops as soon as I felt my eyes be the least dry.

As far as it goes, that's good advice. But with the excellent pre-op care I got, I would have expected better post-op care when it comes to dry eyes. After a few days of constant eye dropping, I noticed that my eyes actually felt worse after I had taken the drops.
Through my own research I found out that it's very common to become allergic to the preservative used in eye drops such as the ones given out by Accuvision. (At this point I should mention that I could have called Accuvision and asked them about it. But being unimpressed by their approach to dry eye care so far, I didn't.)

Since then I've tested a number of eye drops and gels and found that for me Liquifilm in single dose containers works best. Here are some links for other people with dry eyes:

General about dry eyes:
http://www.goodhope.org.uk/departments/eyedept/sore%20dry%20eye.htm

The list of artificial tears at the bottom of this page is useful:
http://www.prodigy.nhs.uk/guidance.asp?gt=dry%20eye%20syndrome

Guidelines for treating dry eyes, not only applicable to people with Sjogren's.
http://www.sjogrensyndrom.se/100-site/spdfs/S24.pdf

Ideally Accuvision should give out an information sheet about dry eyes to those who have that problem at one of the first few post op check-ups. It could contain information about preservative allergies and eye brightening ingredients as well as advice on where to get artifical tears, pros and cons of drops vs. gels and environmental factors to be aware of. Instead of pushing a bottle of Hypromellose into patients' hands, people could be given a few samples of preservative-free single-use containers of different kinds of eye drops so that they can experiment with what kind works best for them. That would actually work out cheaper for Accuvision and improve the level of care at the same time.

I'm booked in for Wavefront Lasik with Accuvision next Tuesday. I just have a couple of last-minute questions - can anyone help?

- Has anyone consulted their GP regarding the prospect of having Lasik? If so, what was their reaction?

- As your eysight can change during pregnancy, is this known to have caused any problems (need for more surgery a few years down the line?) Not relevant for me yet, but who knows?!

It's now nearly 18 months since my LASIK surgery at Accuvision. I can truely say that I've forgotten what it's like to be short-sighted,(I take it for granted that I can now see so well without glasses/contacts all the time).
There was an initial period of "settling in" after surgery, and I opted for what they call monovision, where one eye is left a little undercorrected to avoid needing glasses for near vision as you get older.
I cannot thank the team at Accuvision enough, all so professional, knowledgable and courteous throughout. You pay for what you get, cutting edge technology and a brilliant result.

I had laser surgery yesterday (17th March) and I must say, so far, so good. Whilst having your eyes clamped open obviously isn't enjoyable, I found the whole experience to be surreal rather than painful. In a way, it's a bit like a bungy jump - you have make a leap of faith in order to go ahead and put your life in someone else's hands in order to make get through it all.

The whole thing was very quick, the actual procedure only took about 20 minutes. The staff were all good, the nurse was reassuring and told me what to expect (minus the gory details), the surgeon took time to make sure all my questions are answered beforehand and I was sure I wanted to go ahead (in fact I felt like I was convincing him).

I found out at my check up today that I have 20:20 vision. My eyesight is a little hazy, but that is to be expected and having spoken with/emailed several people, this is normal and my eyesight is expected to improve.

I found the diary of Steve Mercer (see 'links' above) very helpful and feel he has described the process well (but not for the squeamish).

Together with getting married and travelling around the world, this is the BEST THING I EVER DID. No regrets, it's miraculous.

2 years ago I was refused treatment at Optimax due to my astigmatism. After receiving a recommendation for Accuvusion, I booked in for a free consultation and was informed that my 3.25 / 3.50 impaired dvision could be corrected, as well as my severe astigmatism. I haven't looked back since.

Accuvision have been absolutely fantastic from day one. I had a thorough examination with Vik who immediately made me feel comfortable and relaxed. There are no secrets at Accuvision. They tell you the whole story - details of the intricate procedure, the advanced wavefront technology they use which is currently unrivalled in the UK, potential side effects.
I was initially advised that there was a chance I may need very weak glasses for driving (not a problem I said), I was also informed they may not be able to fully correct the astigmatism in both my eyes first time around. This is an example of Accuvision's honesty. They painted me a picture of the worst case scenario, which in either situation I was happy with. But unsurprisingly, neither of these issues occurred. I am now on my 3rd week post-surgery and my vision is perfect. It's been perfect for 2 weeks now. Amazing.

Believe me they ARE right. The surgery does not hurt. I promise. It was a huge comfort to be able to hold the nurse's hand, just for a bit of reassurance as you are fully awake during the procedure. You are aware of what is happening, as the procedure is explained to you many times beforehand.
After surgery you are told to rest your eyes as much as possible - listening to the soaps on TV is no problem! Next day I felt no grittiness, just felt like I'd been punched in each eye. You administer eye drops several times a day during the following week and you are told your vision may fluctuate.

My only symptoms were my eyes felt tired at the end of each day (this only lasted 1 week) and they were sensitive to bright artificial light (this has reduced in time - only brightness now is some car headlights).
I have had my 1 week checkup and my vision is close to 20/20 in left eye and better than 20/20 in right eye. I am absolutely delighted. It's hard to believe it's true. Waking up in the morning has taken on a new dimension now that I can see, I no longer watch TV in bed with my specs on! and I can't wait to go on holiday and be able to see my surroundings when I'm in the swimming pool! AMAZING.

One of the very special things about Accuvision is the people who work there. That's one of the things that makes Accuvision stand out from the rest. Their honesty and integrity is second to none and you are made to feel special and important on every visit. They have all the time in the world for you, no matter how many questions you have or how many times they've heard those questions before! I called Mike (the practice manager) twice after booking surgery with questions and we were on the phone for 25 minutes. No problem, they are dedicated to their patients.
Hugest thanks to Mike who was absolute star throughout and Vik the opthamologist and to Darius who's thoroughness and expertise has resulted in a truly professional, dedicated and caring environment and of course to Mr Rostrum who performed my surgery (though you don't really get to talk to the surgeon much). THANK YOU. It's a whole new world when suddenly you're no longer short-sighted.

If anyone would like more detail, no problem, please mail me: helenlcollins@hotmail.com

My mum was short-sighted and also had to wear reading glasses and she had surgery on the same day as me. They corrected her long-distance vision in one eye and short distance vision in the other eye (monovision) and she also has had no problems and has close to 20/20 vision.

6 days on from my surgery and so far total success, operation was interesting rather than painful, the flap cutting slightly uncomfortable, vision 20/20 within 24hrs, very little discomfort, initially some fluctuation in vision as expected but this now ceased. Night vision not noticeably better (yet?) but have not driven so not really tested. At 1 week check up am expecting 20/10 vision.

You get you what you pay for as every body posting here mentions. What you get at Accuvision is a laser 4 times faster than competitors allowing for quicker operation time and less time for flap to dry out. Flap healing is therefore quicker and less chance of complications. Quicker telemetry so laser is repositioned quicker when eye moves and therefore increased accuracy. Finer laser so more accurate "burning" of corneal tissue. "Wavefront" technology measures thickness of cornea in 168 places giving topographical map of corneal thickness. More tissue can be taken from thicker "peaks" of cornea and less from "troughs". This allows less corneal tissue to be taken for same correction. This is important as the residual thickness of the cornea is cteris all things being equal better thicker than thinner.

The recent adverse publicity should help thin out the competition in provision of lasik surgery. Those following Accuvision lead will no doubt survive, those not updating their technology and employing pushy sales consultants rather than opthamalgic consultants and pressuring clients into signing up for surgery on the day of consultation with discount offers should not be (in an ideal world) in the market place as they are giving lasik an unnecessary reputation as a risky procedure.
Thanks to ALL at Accuvison.

I've recently had two consultations for my short sight (-2.75 / -3 + astigs.)

Ultralase - after 45 mins they gave me the go-ahead without even dilating my pupils, having checked the thickness of my corneas by poking me in the eyes without anaesthetic. Then they leaned on me to book treatment right away. Cost: £1849 for both eyes.

Accuvision - spent nearly 3 hours checking & re-checking my eyes with state of the art equipment, spotting various irregularities treatable with Wavefront technology. Answered my huge list of questions patiently & were very friendly. Cost: £3600 for both eyes, with Wavefront.

Conclusion: you get what you pay for. I will be going ahead with Accuvision.

I went for consultations with a three different clinics including Accuvision at the end of last year, of the three I was in no doubt that the right choice for myself was Accuvision. As most of reviews on this site have stated previously the staff are very professional and knowledge as well as very nice people.

With the help of the consultants I decided the Wavefront Guided treatment was the right choice for me. I had read up on the benefits of wavefront treatment before attending the consultation as well as contacting previous patients of Accuvision to ask them of their experiences.

I made a booking for the beginning of January. My prescription pre-op was -8 in the right eye and -7.25 with astigmatism in the left. I am now nearly 7 weeks post op, and the vision in both eyes is better than 20/20 in fact in both eyes the vision is better than when I wore glasses and as a bonus my vision at night is much better.

Due to my high prescription one of the main reasons for choosing Accuvision (other than the wavefront treatment) was that Accuvision create a much thinner corneal flap. Most clinics create a flap around 160 microns but Accuvision customise the treatment for the individual and the flap they created for my treatment was 110 microns, corneal thickness post treatment is extremely important. The higher you prescription the more corne is removed to correct your vision. Most clinics will tell you that as long as you have around 250 microns left (not including the flap) you should be safe. However before deciding to undergo the treatment I did a lot of research into the issues that can occur after lasik treatment one of the main concerns is that 250 microns is the minimum that most people believe should be left post op. Accuvision belive the minimum amount should be 300 microns, and as they tend to create a smaller flap they are more likley to achieve this.

The consultants set a very clear expectation of what to expect during the op and the hours, days, weeks and months post op. My eyes felt very gritty for the first few days. I didn’t really experience dry eyes maybe just slightly for around 3-4 days.
For the first 2-3 weeks at night or early morning, lights were very bright and I experienced starbursts and halos. But after the first few weeks this has gone away. I would say that now I don’t have any problems seeing at night, driving at night is no problem at all.

For myself personally I have had a very good experience having entrusted Accuvision to carry out the lasik treatment. For anyone who is considering lasik I would highly recommend that you at the very least have a consultation with Accuvision.

There is lots of information on the internet – some of the best sites are those for eye professionals such as Eurotimes, Ophthalmology Times and Review of Ophthalmology.

So now to the important bit – the end result. I wore glasses from the age of 8 to 18 – remember those snazzy NHS frames with the wire ends that curled around your ears – and then hard gas permeable contact lenses for the next 21 years. My prescription was –9.00 and –3.75 which made it very difficult to tolerate wearing glasses because of the difference in image size in each eye.

My prescription was –9.00 and –3.75. At the first day check up my vision was tested and found to be 20/20 . The initial reading for my prescription was –1.00 and –0.25.

I underwent bilateral LASIK at Accuvision on 29th May 2002. Previously -2.75L/-3.75R with about 0.5 astig. Now 6/6 unaided VA and very happy with the results. Very slight haloing and starbursts, which don't really cause too much bother.
I experienced no pain at all during the treatment, just a high level of anxiety caused more by what my mind was imagining, than what was actually going on.
I would definitely recommend Accuvision to anyone interested in laser sight correction. Having read only glowing, 5/5 reports about Accuvision on this site prior to my treatment, I must admit I did suspect that they might be offering some kind of referral incentive - they were the only clinic without a single negative comment. But I can confirm these are all genuine; Accuvision don't give any kind of financial inducement if you recommend to a friend (unlike at least one other company who I shan't name...don't want this website being closed down again!)
Accuvision is an extremely well-run practice with friendly, supportive and competent staff. They operate from attractive, clean, modern premises and use state-of-the-art equipment. The pre-and post-treatment care is thorough, professional and without hard sell. I've read many postings since my Lasik op from people with very challenging prescriptions, who'd been turned down by other clinics but treated successfully by Accuvision, and that reinforces my view that I had the best, most advanced treatment available.
The only improvement I can think of, would be to introduce a separate recovery area for patients immediately post-op, rather than sending them straight back into the waiting area. Don't get me wrong, it's not an unpleasant place to be, but I'm sure that a quieter, softly-lit room with reclining chairs would be more conducive to resting for the first 20 minutes or so. Just an idea.
Although the long-term effects are little-known, at this point in time I'm in no doubt that it's the best thing I ever did...no regrets AT ALL. The cliché certainly applies that I wish I'd done it years ago. There's just no way to describe the feeling, the first time you go to push your specs back up your nose, then realise you're not wearing any! It's certainly not right for everyone, and things certainly CAN go wrong, which is why you should do careful research beforehand, wise up as much as possible about the benefits and risks, and think very carefully about why you want to have your sight surgically corrected. If you're younger, you may want to wait awhile, until the technology advances further and there is a larger pool of post-op patients to study. For instance, laser keratomes are under development which may provide a safer, more accurate cut than a blade. But, being in my mid-30's, I decided I wanted to enjoy the results while I still (hopefully) have many active years ahead of me, and as it turned out, it was the right choice.

Went to Accuvision on Tuesday for an initial consultation. As many before, I found all the staff to be friendly, helpful and above all extremely professional and knowledgeable. I am also going to the Centre for sight as a comparison but they will have to be out of this world to beat the confidence I already feel towards Accuvision. Apparently I have larger than average pupils(!!) and this makes the surgery more complicated despite my low prescription of -3 in both eyes. Has anyone else had this and gone ahead with Wavefront - I'm scared and would welcome any reassuring comments!!

I was treated on the 31st Jan with two heavily astigmatic eyes (-6 area) and thin corneas plus large pupils. Like most people who have had this operation it does not hurt at all. Post op I am around -1 and -3 so I may well need to get the left eye redone at some point. My right eye is really superb and I am very staisfied with the treatment I have received. 319 micons in the good eye but 300 in the left means that for any enhancement I will have reduced corneal bed thickness of only 270 area. This is the hard part as I do not want to suffer corneal bulging. If anyone knows what minimum thickness is safe please email me. One thing is for sure - Darius runs a very tight ship at Accuvision.

I have just had a very thorough and professional consultation with Accuvision and having also been to Ultralase I would say that there is no comparison - Accuvision is far more comprehensive. One question though: I have -7.5 and -8 with a -1.25 astigmatism and thin corneas and have been quoted £5000. I was expecting £4000 but definitely not %000. Judging some of the other comments on this site for people with my sort of vision this still seems high. Anyone else been quoted such a high amount?

Had my 'Wavefront' treatment on the 17th Feb. and now, two days later, have to say that this is easily one of the best things I have done.
Pre-treatment I was -5:00 and -4:75 with astigmatism in the left eye. One day after surgery I was at 20/20 and have been delightedly reading absolutely anything and everything I can find...it really is like being a kid in a sweet shop!
The operation was painless but uncomfortable and I would agree with earlier comments about the unpleasantness of having your eyes clamped and something attached to the eyeballs. Amazingly, since this, I have experienced almost zero discomfort other than my eyes feeling somewhat dry - as if I had worn contacts for too long. No itching, prickling, feeling as if an eyelash was stuck....I think I have been very lucky although I did follow the post op. recommendations religiously! On the day following surgery I was told that if I went in to an opticians for an examination, they would be very unlikely to tell that I had had surgery only 24 hours previously; the 'flap' had healed in that time!
I am going back for a weeks check up on the 24th Feb after which I will post again but for now I am noticing almost daily improvements. It's true my eyes feel 'tired' but with regular periods of rest I think they will continue to improve.
The cost of treatment was £3600 but so far certainly worth all the scrimping and saving.

I've just been for my check-up the day after surgery. Both corneal flaps have healed back in perfect location, and my vision with both eyes together is already not far off 20/20. Considering only a day before I was -10 dioptre, I'm finding this a bit mind-blowing at the moment.

The procedure itself yesterday was a breeze. The preparation for surgery was done while I was lying on the laser bed, which meant I was settled when the time came. I won't say I managed to relax completely, but Darius and the team were very reassuring, talking me through the procedure throughout. There was no pain at all.

The critical thing for me was the thickness of cornea left post-op (to reduce the risk of corneal ecstasia). Even with my prescription, there is still 330 microns left in my worst eye, which is very comforting. So far I have noticed no flares, halos or the like.

I would recommend anyone with a complex prescription like mine to go and see Accuvision. I believe it was their dedication, careful deliberation and technology that made my procedure go so smoothly - I'll post in a few weeks about how my vision settles down.

All in all - they are the pups nuts! I'm very grateful to everyone there for making sure things turned out so well.

My mother prompted me into having laser treatment - I think it is something she would have considered, if it had been available when she was my age. I had Wavefront Guided Custom LASIK on 15th January 2003, two weeks after my 41st birthday. (My mother kindly paid for one eye, as it was her suggestion!)
It is therefore exactly four weeks since my treatment. My optician in Lincoln recommended Accuvision to me. I took his advice, which meant staying in London for two nights; Tuesday -consultation, Wednesday - treatment, Thursday-follow up appointment. Listening to my mother and optician were the two best things I have EVER done.
The procedure was absolutely pain-free, the anaesthetizing drops certainly worked! Immediately after the treatment things were hazy, as to be expected. My husband escorted me back to our hotel room and I rested with my eyes shut. Every hour I administered my eye drops (these were to prevent any chance of infection) and each time I opened my eyes I noticed an improvement.
By the following morning, I simply could not believe my eyes! I could see absolutely EVERYTHING! (Even the underground station names on the map in the train on my 3rd consecutive journey to Parsons Green). Darius and Vic said the treatment had been a huge success and I couldn't have agreed more.
One week later, I made the pilgrimage down to Fulham once again (not for the last time, I hasten to add!), to have my eyesight tested. It was better than 20/20 vision!
I still find it hard to believe (having worn glasses/ contacts for 23 years) that I now have perfect vision...it is a dream come true! I teach PE and sport is a big part of my life, so the convenience is just fantastic; also my tennis seems even better - especially pleasing having chosen the slight under correction in my less dominant eye, to delay the eventual onset of long-sightedness.
I can therefore strongly recommend ACCUVISION to anyone; their professionalism is outstanding.
I am now looking forward to my forthcoming 6-week check-up at half term when I am taking my two sons down to London to see where my miracle was performed!

Having spent months researching different clinics I booked consultations at Accuvision and maxi vision. After a disappointing experience at MaxiVision (see review later) my expectations were mixed. I expected Accuvision to be better than MaxiVision having read the reviews on this site.
I saw Joan Griffin who was incredibly helpful and answered all questions fully and completely and asked what I knew and didn't know about lasik. She was a fantastic consultant who gave an excellent first impression of the clinic. Next I saw Daryus Pampathkey Accuvisions technical director. What can I say? He is The Man when it comes to all things Lasik. His knowledge and technical expertise are second to none, I learned more about the eye and Lasik in ten minutes with him than I did in the months of research I had done previously. Having been told at MaxiVision to expect some deterioration in my night vision (good night vision is crucial to my ambition to skipper yachts) Daryus assured me that he would be very disappointed if they did not significantly improve my night vision and showed me a graphic of the anomalies that made my current night vision significantly worse than average. The costs at £1800 per eye are significantly higher than other centres. In my opinion however there is little comparison between the treatment offered. Accuvision is simply the best. I am booked in for 27th February and will report back after the surgery.

I have just had my initial assessment with Vik at Accuvision. I found the service I got there superb, Vik was very honest, straight to the point but also understood that this is a huge decision (my sight is -8 and -8,5 and I am only 25) to make and appeared very compassionate. The technology they use is very impressive and the tests they perform very thorough. Apparently my case falls in the 20% or so patients that they treat who are "untreatable" elsewhere. In fact, Vic was so confident of the quality of the treatment at Accuvision that he challenged me to go elsewhere and assess the treatment in other clinics. I am going to take him up on this offer, and will report back when I have seen other clinics...At the moment, I am very satisfied with Accuvision, although they a little more expensive, based on the knowledgeable staff, technology used and general feel of the place, I would go with them...but we shall wait and see

I had my consultation a week ago, and my surgery is booked for a week today. My left eye is -9.75, and my right is -3.00 with an astigmatism of -4.5. Given how rubbish my eyes are, and having had a consultation elsewhere for comparison, I'm happy paying a premium for Accuvison thoroughness. Vikash checked everything, including a measurement of my pupils, and corneal thickness around the edge of my astigmatic eye, not just the centre. Darius's interest and input throughout also gave me confidence. All the risks were explained, and no pressure applied. I just hope I'll be giving 5 stars in a couple of weeks time!

Further to my comments on the 17th Jan (just in case someone thought the surgery went wrong when I didnt report on my treatment sooner!!)....
My treatment went as planned 2 weeks ago and even the following day my vision was already 20/20, with an improvement a week later to better than 20/20 in one eye... Yes, its uncomfortable, having your eyes clamped open is never going to pleasant! but the team are very supportive and caring throughout. I have to say make sure you have someone to look after you the day of surgery, it is handy having someone else put the hourly drops in (and to make you drinks and dinner!!)
Because I work night shifts within my job I have found it hard at times due to the halos and blurriness of LED displays at night, but I have been told this is to be expected and will settle down within the next few weeks. I also think that because I am aware of my vision more I am always examining whether I can see better now than with my glasses before (and beware everyone, you will become a bore talking about laser treatment once you've had it done!). One eyes has been quicker to heal and improve than the other but again this is normal. What I can say is don't expect perfect vision from day 1, it does take time!!
However, I am off on holiday to NZ and Aus for a month soon and cant wait to go with just a pair of sunglasses (and some clothes of course!).
It has made a difference to normal life already, and I don't regret a single penny that has been spent.
The team are great and my comments from before still stand.
Anybody who is considering treatment should go to Accuvision for a consultation, it is free and you have nothing to lose. I have recommended the team to many colleagues, friends and family and several are already thinking about going for it. Just like myself, it is easier to make a decision about having this treatment when someone you know personally has had it done. Find out for yourself how good they are!!

I had wavefrontguided Lasik at Accuvision four days ago. I had a mild shortsightedness and astigmatism. I am, so far, very happy with the results. Vision in my left eye is very good; vision in my right eye is better than it was but I'm hoping it will improve.

I found the actual procedure extremely unpleasant and would not want to go through it again. Despite that the discomfort is short lived and I have no regrets. Post surgery I had no pain in one eye whilst the other was really quite sore with 'shooting pains'. I wouldn't really describe them as gritty, more prickly!

I found the team pleasant and professional. However I agree with the comments posted regarding the rude receptionist, her attitude prior to surgery nearly prevented my going there.

On the negative:
I would have welcomed a sedative/anxiolytic beforehand (Accuvision won't let you have one).

I would also have welcomed somewhere a little more private/comfortable to recover for the hour afterwards. When the operation was finished I felt very emotional and stressed - sitting in a busy waiting room with my eyes shut was disorientating and distressing.

Overall I would go through it all again and would choose Accuvision.

Have you heard about the recent judgement by the ASA (advertising standards authority)? I had my eyes done with Accuvision about a year ago and often refer to this site out of curiosity to read other entries. I just thought other interested parties would want to know about this...

Basically Ultralase protested against an Accuvision advert that claimed they are able to treat patients that other clinics can't. The ad also said that no other UK clinic can match Accuvision's treatment. The ASA looked into the complaint, and refused to uphold it because Accuvision proved that its claims are true. Accuvision has treated a huge number of people refused by other clinics - including Ultralase! So Accuvision really does provide unmatched treatment!

Definitely worth knowing when you're trying to decide between clinics!!

I am booked in for my initial consultation on 10th February 2003 and if all goes well, I shall book in for the operation as soon as I can be fitted in. I am just a bit concerned about the fact that the person who took my call, was abrupt, unfriendly and not at all helpful. She didn't even want to do any more than take my number initially and have someone call me back. Then she seemed to change her mind and said "wait a moment" - yelled down the line in an irritated fashion. She was even shorter with me as she made me repeat everything I said, right down to my postcode! Having read the rave reviews on this site, I am hoping that mine was a one off so far as dodgy encounters go, with the staff of Accuvision. Hope the rest of the set up is more professional though. I shall post again when I have seen them and made up my mind about the operation.

I had Wavefront LASIK done 10 days ago at Accuvision. I did a lot of research in advance - I have a PhD in engineering, so probably had a slightly keener interest in the technology. I looked into Wavefront LASIK (which gives a custom correction based on your complete optical system) over a year ago, and decided it was too much in its infancy. However, now the technique seems to be well understood and the results much more predictable than in the early days.

Wavefront is available elsewhere (Sunderland Eye Clinic or Site for Eyes, Manchester Centre for Vision) but the kit differs greatly, and the devil is in the detail. The two key things are the laser that Accuvision use (visit ww.ophthalmic.lumenis.com) and the Tscherning aberrometer. These are the most advanced for various reasons and i believed are at the point of diminishing returns in terms of detectable effect on the outcome. The laser spot is small, the eye tracking is fast, the treated area is large (so you don't get a blurred image bypassing the treated area when your pupil is dilated creating a halo) etc. etc.

Added to all that, the treatment is friendly, sympathetic, patient and comfortable. The place is run also by the proprietor Darius who takes a tremendous interest in the treatment of every individual. As a result you do feel treated individually, rather than being on a production line.

The operation is undoubtedly rather nervewracking. Mild pain/discomfort, but better than having a filling done, and over quicker. Once the first eye is done, you will not be worried about the second.

My corrected vision was 6:3 in my left and 6:4 in my right so I had high expectations. Post treatment, i already have 6:3 in both eyes although with a slight but reducing fluctuation in the left. Contrast sensitivity is fantastic - shiny objects appear brilliant. Night vision is excellent now though i had a lot of glare for the first week. No halos at all. Stars are bright pinpricks of light rather than spiky smudges.

As for the people who write negative stuff about LASIK, well sure there were lots of circumspect outcomes in the early days but i think this technology has come of age. Besides, is it more likely that i will have problems in the future with my LASIK legacy or complications from 20 more years of continued contact lens wear?

As for the cost, yes it's more expensive, but whatever you do don't make a decision based on cost. If you can't afford to do it properly then don't do it at all - these are your eyes.

I had my Accuwave Lasik treatment last Wednesday (15th) and I had high expectations, which I'm glad to say have not been let down! The day after the procedure I could read all the 20/20 lines on the chart and my vision seems to be getting clearer and clearer every day.

It cost £3000 for both eyes, I think the price of the procedure depends of the strength of prescription and complexity of the operation (sensitive eyes, thin corneas etc).

The procedure is not exactly pleasant but well worth it, I found it really quite uncomfortable but no pain and I would do it again so it can't have been that bad!

I'm quite a young Lasik patient at 21, neither did I have a high prescription (it was nearly entirely astigmatism) but I've been wearing glasses and contacts since I was 5 or 6 this was the first time I ever went to the opticians, as far as I know I might never have had perfect vision.

I know the procedure costs more than average but it's the only technology of it's kind in the UK and I think that's worth paying for! I am happy to reply to emails if anyone wants to hear more about the whole thing!

Liz :-)

I had my surgery already on 09October last year. My vision was not very bad (ca -1.75 on both eyes, but with astigmatism 2.25 on the left eye), but I had to wear glasses at all times( I first was prescribed glasses at age 14 and at the time of my operation I was 38). After researching the internet, I decided to go to Accuvision-both because of the good ratings they received by patients, but I also had a look on their website which I found very informative. I found that they describe everything in detail and that they mention every possible aspect. The first consultation was very good and detailed, it took more than one hour. During the operation, the team was very helpful, the nurse even held my hand which was good as even with all that information ( my mum had even read somewhere that laser-eye-surgery was 99% successful) I was very scared!! The operation, as predicted, did not hurt at all. I could go home after surgery. I felt a bit uncomfortable for ca 3-4hours, then I opened my eyes- and I could see so well! It actually took me a few weeks to NOT look for my spectacles in the morning, and I had to remind myself constantly that I don't need to wear them. In fact, I can see better now than I used to with spectacles. I am very glad that I did it, and I would advise everybody who considers the operation, not to wait too long. I have noticed that IN GENERAL the prices for operations have gone up recently. I believe that you will not regret taking that step.

I am going to reiterate what 99% of people have already said about the team at Accuvision. As a health care professional myself, I know the difference between bad, good and excellent care and what I experienced last Tuesday at my consultation was superb. All the team certainly know what they are talking about, they explain everything thoroughly and without pressure, it is one of the best examples of informed consent I have experienced. Unlike many other people with comments on this site I do not have a strong prescription (-1.25 both eyes) or high astigmatism. I still however have to wear glasses or contact lenses all the time if I want to see clearly so it is just as much an issue whether you have a high or low prescription! I trawled the internet for hours upon hours doing my research on laser eye surgery and decided that Accuvision sounded the best in terms of professionalism, technology, results and customer feedback. I didn't even bother having a consultation with any other clinics. As said before a million times, you cannot put a price on your eyesight. During my consultation, it was discovered that even though my prescription was very straightforward, I had very poor night and low light vision (which could partly explain my deep hatred of working night shifts!!) . If I was treated with normal LASIK treatment, I could end up with poor clarity of vision even though I may not need glasses/contacts. By using Wavefront guided lasik, the team at Accuvision are confident they will improve all aspects of my vision. After what I heard Vik and the team explain, there is no way I would even contemplate having lasix conventionally.
As for the price.....I thought that due to my mild prescription the price wouldn't be too much more than prices quoted at other clinics, but because I still require the personalised Wavefront guided treatment it will still cost me £3600..now I was a little shocked at that, especially on my poor nurses wage!, however its the only way to go for me.

I have booked in for treatment next week (22nd) and am confident I will be receiving the best treatment from a team who really know what they're talking about.
I shall update you following surgery next week!!!

Booked into Accuvision for an assessment next Monday the 20th Jan. Chose these as they have the best rating, have Wavefront Technology and look a proffesional set up. Is anyone aware of other clinics that offer Wavefront? as Accuvision look expensive, although I am prepared to pay for the best treatment. I believe that the Birkdale Clinic may do, any experiences here?

Generaly the cost seems to be around £3,600 for both eyes. But i think it varies depending on your vision. You pay more, but you definatley get the best treatment - after all it is your eyes!

Go and see them at the clinic and have a consultation - you will know if it is the place as soon as you walk through the door and meet the people.

Good Luck

I had my surgery on the 4th December. After a friend recommended Accuvision to me. With ultra sensitive eyes - (never could wear contact lenses) I thought I might be a problem, but I had absolute confidence in everybody there. I had roughly +3.50 in each eye, an astigmatism & very large pupils. I now have 20/20 vision. The operation itself was not the most pleasant of things to have done - but not painful, but well worth it for the results you get. I had the op in the morning and kept my eyes closed all the rest of the day, as they felt gritty. The next day I woke up & could actually see without my glasses -wow- eyes were a little sore. I think it was about a week before I was comfortable with the feel of my eyes, before the grittiness went. Unfortunately I did get bad bruising from the surgery in my eyes which involved the whites of the eyes going bloodshot - this is probably why the eyes have troubled me longer than they seem to have for most other people. But the redness is nearly all gone now, and the vision I think is still improving. I would definitely recommend this treatment to anybody and choose Accuvision - they are definitely the best.

what can I say? its truly is a miracle!!!! I've had bad eyesight for as long as I can remember. I never really thought id be able to see things so clearly without the aid of glasses or contact lenses ever again.......then I heard about the LASIK treatment and although I was a bit apprehensive at first, decided to go ahead with the treatment and it has been the best thing I have ever spent money on. I had the treatment done in August at about five in the evening. was no pain at all.....couldn't believe it!!!!! I was in and out of the operating theatre in about fifteen minutes tops. by 8 o'clock that same evening I was watching who wants to be a millionaire with no difficulties in reading the questions on the screen. Unbelievable - but true. waking up the next morning was even more amazing. for the past god knows how many years the first thing I had to do in the morning was put my glasses on. but not any more!!!!! I was able to open my eyes and see everything - I never thought I would ever be able to do that again. it has been just over four months since I had the treatment and apart from a few problems with dry eye (which has now been resolved) I have had no trouble with my vision. I recommend this treatment to anyone who is thinking about having it done. Accuvision is a wonderful place with a calming atmosphere and great staff who are always at hand and looking after you. thank you once again to all the staff for giving me back my vision. it truly is a miracle.

I had my surgery on Friday, 6 December. I had been refused last year by Boots Clinic but after hearing about Accuvision, I decided to give it one more go. I was so convinced they would say no, that had only told a couple of people that I was going.
All of the staff at the clinic made me feel so at ease. I was told that I had a high prescription, astigmatism and large pupils!! Nothing new there apart from the pupils bit. Just the challenge the surgeon was looking for. They were convinced they could significantly improve my vision.
That was it - I entrusted my eyesight to these people that I had only just met. And I had to pay for it. And it is worth every penny. The flap on the left eye dried very quickly and I needed a contact lens on overnight. That was removed the day after. I was very apprehensive for the first 24 hours with the 'expected' fluctuations in sight but after 6pm on Saturday the vision just cleared. The night vision took about a week to settle and each day there was significant improvement. The 10-day check up went very well with 20/20 in both eyes.
I can see better than I ever could with glasses and I am so grateful to the team at Accuvision. What a fantastic Christmas present! I want to say a special thank you to Nick for keeping an eye on my Mum who watched the whole thing! THANK YOU
