The whole team at accuvision were great. Initial consultations were very
informative and surgery time was quick and efficient with lots of support
from the surgeons and whole team. The surgery itself wasnt painful, just
uncomfortable for a few minutes, with a lifetime worth of benefits. After
care is also great with a 24hr number should you need it. Highly recommend
going to accuvision if you are considering laser treatment.

I thought about having Laser Surgery about 3 years ago, but that was as
far as it went until my friend had hers done and said how fantastic it
was. So I rang round a number of companies only to be told that they could
not do my prescription, it was Accuision and one other company that said
it could be done. I opted for the other company as it was only 300 miles
from where I live in Scotland and Accuvision was 600. I went for my consultation
in July this year and all was well, I told them that I have Ulcerated
Colitis and it was put in my notes and nothing mentioned about it. I booked
to have the surgery at the end of July. My husband and I travelled overnight
so we could get to the clinic for the 9.50 appointment. I was very excited
and also very scared, but the thought that I would be able to see spurred
me on. I was called into the consulting room and the surgeon looked at
my notes and straight away said he was unable to treat because of the
colitis, he had to tell me 3 times before I was able to take in what he
was saying and I just cried and cried, I couldnt understand why it was
not mentioned to me at the consultion. Over the past 4 months I have been
in contact with the company and they keep saying they will be able to
do it some time when they have some new equipment installed. A month ago
my daughter had her eyes done and it made me want mine done even more
when I saw what great results she had, so my husband told me to ring Accuvision
even though it would be a long journey. I rang and made an appointment
for 6.12.04, consultation at 10am and the treatment at 2pm if all was
well, we travelled down on the Sunday and stayed overnight so we could
get to the 10am appointment. I had my consultation and was told the surgery
could go ahead and would I like to have it done straight away, so I said
yes and was out of the clinic by mid-day. It was a very quick and painless
treatment and I could see straight away. Everyone in the clinic was so
nice and made you feel you was the only person they had to deal with that
day. We went back to the hotel and I kept my eyes closed for the rest
of the day as much as I could, we had a meal in the hotel restaurant so
I wouldnt have to go outside incase dust got into my eyes. Next day we
went back for the check-up and my right eye that I couldnt read the top
letters with the day before could read the bottom line of letters, fantastic.
I had no pain or discomfort at any time, I just get dry eyes which is
quite normal and I use tear drops throughout the day. I have been to Aberdeen
to have my first week follow-up and the optician was impressed by my new
eyes, all is well and I am just delighted with the results. My right prescription
was Sph+4 Cyl-5 Axis22. I am so glad that my husband made me ring Accuvision
as I would still be waiting and waiting on the other company, I just wish
I had rung them first. If anyone is thinking of having Laser Surgery,
dont hesitate, it is so great to be able to see. I am 50 and have worn
glasses for 43 years, it takes a bit of getting used to not putting on
your glasses when you get up. If you would like to email me about the
surgery I would be more than happy to answer any questions. Linda Powditch.

I decided to look at laser surgery back in May. As I had been wearing
hard c/l for 20 years I had to make the sacrifice of wearing glasses for
a while! My first stop was Optimax in Leicester due to its location in
my nearest city. I was advised that 3 weeks of non c/l wearing should
suffice and so off I went. as the clinic had only just opened it was a
little disorganised and I had to wait an hour to be seen. I was told that
my corneas were too thin for lasik but I could have Epi-Lasek. However
my corneas hadn't demoulded enough for a proper examination so had to
wait another 3 weeks to see if I could have epi-lasek. The lady I saw
wasn't very helpful and I felt she was too bored to give me all I needed
so decided to go to BUPA. Again was told my corneas were too thin and
advised to have lens implants. The consultant I was passed to gave me
little information and wanted me to sign up after 5 mins, after telling
me there were no risks. I was dubious of this advice and wondered whether
the fact that England were playing that night had anything to do with
his lack of time! Next stop was a gentleman I found on the net who was
independent and specialised in implants. He was great and went through
ALL possibilities although he only performed implants. The risks he advised
me of about implants put me straight off - glaucoma, cataracts, retina
detachment etc. Again I went back to the internet - whereupon I found
a man who had thin corneas like me who had had lasik and it was successful;
he had been to accuvision in Fulham. So I made an appointment (1st one
that was free!) and decided to see LCRS in Harley St while I was down
in the big city to make my trip worthwhile. LCRS specialise in cutting
the eye so it then heals giving corrected sight (very much layman terms
I know!). They said laser surgery was rubbish and had stopped performing
it years ago - wasn't overly keen on having my eye cut and the fact that
I could only have one eye done at a time and 3 months apart meant a very
long process. So back to Accuvision - very professional, very informative,
very expensive. They could deal with my corneas and also told me I had
large pupils (something no on else had mentioned), but this wasn't a problem.
They went through the risks, dry eyes, halos, starburst etc but my main
concern was that they couldn't make me blind! After much research (think
I may have done a little too much) I decided to book in. I went in on
my own (would recommend taking a friend), as I didn't want to inconvenience
my rural friends and practised deep breathing to keep calm. Was laid down
and my eyes were anaesthetised. A nurse offered me her hand to hold but
I decided against it. I was asked to concentrate on a green light and
my eye was clamped open. Then the uncomfortable part - pressure put on
the iris to hold it in place and all goes black. At this point the nurse
grabbed my hand - I think she was more nervous than me, so I decided to
squeeze hard just to make her feel needed. After that I felt nothing and
breathed through my mouth as otherwise you can smell burning! Then my
left eye was done and as I knew what to expect it wasn't too bad. You
are then left to lie still for a few minutes (eyes shut of course) - by
the way everyone speaks to you throughout so you don't feel 'left out'.
Then I was asked to sit up and open my eyes - I didn't want to but eventually
I did only to see a man peering at me. I shut my eyes again as he was
a little scary and then proceeded to cry! I don't think it was because
I could see and certainly not because I was in pain, I think it was just
relief that it was over. After that you sit with eyes closed for 30 mins
and then get checked over. I had a c/l put in place to help the cornea
flap stay put and was told that it would actually make recovery less painful
as well. This all started at around 2.30 and I was in my hotel for 4pm.
by 5pm I went to the bar (in my sunglasses), for medicinal purposes only,
as I felt like someone had punched me in my right eye (left eye was fine).
By 6pm I felt fine, no pain and I could see. You are advised to keep eyes
closed as much as possible so I ordered room service and listened to the
TV. You have to tape eye shields on at night to stop you rubbing your
eyes in your sleep, so when I woke up expecting the joy of being able
to see the alarm clock I was disappointed, as all I could see was tape!
Not to worry, as soon as I had ripped off the tape my vision was pretty
good - little fuzzy in right eye. The clinic took out my c/l and said
I was legal to drive, as I was 20/40. I had to use steroid eye drops for
the next week to keep infection at bay and also tear drops when necessary.
By the 2nd day my vision was good but fluctuated a little - nothing serious
though. I went to a rugby match (obviously as a spectator) and could see
well, went to the pub after and again all was well. Went back for my week
after consultation and was told I was 20/20 with room for improvement!
My eyes were only a little bloodshot after 10 days and I wasn't scaring
children anymore (shame!) To summarise - I'm glad I did it. It didn't
really hit me that I could see unassisted until I went on holiday 6 weeks
after treatment, without 2 pairs of glasses, contact lenses, solutions
etc! My details - was -4.00 and -5.00 with a slight astigmatism. Last
visit I was -0.25 and +0.25 respectively. My corneas were 480 thicknesses
and the flap was 80 and cornea removed was 67 and 84 respectively, so
leaving more than the 250 recommended untouched. Should anyone thinking
of having this done want more details then please feel free to email me

I had treatment 2 days ago now and all is pretty good so far (I am writing
this with no glasses). I am reserving final judgment for a couple of weeks
while my eyes settle down. **Surgery day** The day of surgery was pretty
busy (Mondays and Thursdays) with at least 4 others having the procedure
done at similar times to me and lots of checking and rechecking eye measurements
etc. Despite this, the staff were excellent and made me feel relaxed.
The surgery itself was slightly painful and unnerving. My right eye went
well and was glad to have the left eye complete too, only to find that
after checking the pupil, I had to have the flap lifted and re-cleaned.
As soon as the surgery was over I was able to see 20/20 which was a relief
but I was hoping for better as my sight was better than this with glasses
prior to the operation. My near sight was excellent but my distance vision
was still a little blured. Vikesh confirmed this is as expected and that
the eye will relax a little – fingers crossed. **Surgery day+1**
I awoke early (thanks to my 2 year old son James) with what felt like
a stuck contact lens (I did actually have contact lenses in to help the
healing) – the drops provide soon sorted this. Then I read James
a story! My first check up. Back with Vikesh again – he removed
my protective lenses, confirmed that the flap had resealed itself and
there was no signs of infection. As with the day before my shorted vision
was excellent but my long distance vision is slightly blurry. The topography
of my new eyes did look a little “hilly”. Vikesh tried to
reassure me but being a bit of a synic I wonder if he only spreads good
news… I’ll wait and see I went to work happily for the rest
of the day with no head aches or concentration problems. **Surgery day+2**
Short sight is excellent, Long sight is still poor or perhaps slightly
worse – having difficulty seeing number plates at 20 yards and text
on the TV across the room. Fingers crossed this improves. Not being able
to rub or easily clean your eyes (I am not a good shot with the drops!)
is a pain but I have no scratchiness or irritation. So much so I have
to keep reminding myself to put in the supplied set of drops.

I had my consultation with Accuvision after being told that my prescription
was too severe for Laser surgery at another clinic. My prescription was
a -6.75 with a 4.25 astigmatism in my left eye and a -8 with a 2,5 astigmatism
in my right eye. I went along with no real hope that they could offer
me anything different. I was over the moon when, after careful examination
of my eyes and prescription, Vikash declared that they could not only
treat my eyes but be confident that I would not have to wear glasses for
anything more than possibly night driving.
I booked up my treatment and went in for it about two
weeks later. I was very nervous laying on the table but had no need to
be. The staff were superb and Nick Jacobs made me feel very relaxed. In
no time at all I was being told to sit up and come over to a check up
desk. Without thinking I opened my eyes….and I could see the other
end of the room perfectly. To say it was amazing is a massive understatement,
I had been wearing glasses full time since I was six or seven and couldn’t
see a hand in front of my face without them.
I spent the next few days walking around like a grinning
idiot, just so pleased and amazed at the miracle that they had performed.
I had very slight discomfort for the first evening, just like having really
tired and dry eyes. After that they were fine, no discomfort at all. Slight
haziness on and off for the first few days, which was exactly as advised
it would be.
Now, a couple of months later, I am still disbelieving
that it is for real and I no longer need glasses. My check ups have shown
my vision to be better than 20/20 with only a very slight astigmatism
remaining in my left eye. Even for night driving I do not need glasses.
A big big thank you to all at Accuvision for their treatment
and experience. Thank you.

I had my laser treatment at the end of August. Originally i had gone to
Ultralase but was told my cornea was too steep and that my only option
was implantable contact lenses but as my prescription wasn't that strong
it wouldn't be worth it. I was pretty disappointed by this as i hate wearing
glasses and this was something i was thinking about for ages. By accident
i saw an ad for Accuvision and called them and found out that it may be
possible to treat so i went along and found out that yes it was so booked
myself in and haven't looked back since - had my 6 week check up and my
vision is better than 20 20. The staff were fabulous i remember the nurse
holding my hand throughout the op. I would without hesitation recommend
accuvision to anyone and am encouraging my friends to have the treatment!

Just wanted to say thank you for "looking after my eyes"! I
felt I couldn't have been in better hands. You are all so professional
and it mean't so much ..... If anyone is nervous and not sure what to
do, let me re-assure you, from my own personal experience, I could not
have put my "eyes" in better hands. Everything from start to
finish was so professional, I just knew that my eyes would be ok.....
and they are. Infact more than ok - I am writing this just 24 hours after
treatment and it is just wonderful. After many years of wearing contact
lenses my eyes already feel "brighter". Even immediately after
treatment, a quick peep revealed, with reasonable clarity that things
were already sharp, though a little like looking through "cling film"!
A big thank you to my surgeon - Nick Jacobs and the lovely nurse who held
my hand! I woke up this morning and the wow factor was already there,
albeit still a little like looking through the cling film! As the day
has gone on it just keeps getting better - cling film has gone now. I've
been shopping to Harrods and Harvey Nicks and have been driving around
in my car - all stuff I never expected to be doing so soon. If you are
still wondering whether to do it - I had concerns, you are bound to .....
but now I am so pleased I've done it.

I had my eye sight corrected at Accuvision five weeks ago. I live at Newcastle
but because my prescription was so bad at +7.5 no one would treat me.
I had a free consultation at the London clinic and was so impressed I
had the treatment two days later. The procedure took only minutes and
there was no pain. My sight was improved instantly and got better each
day. I had worn glasses or contact lenses for nearly fifty years and have
now thrown them away. My vision was checked arter a month and is now 20/20
My advice is to go for it...

Amazing, I can see! 3 months ago I had a glasses prescription of + 6 and
+ 5.5 and couldn’t be without my glasses for more than a few minutes
without getting a headache. Now thanks to Accuvision's care, attention
to detail and wave front technology I have 20/20 vision in both eyes.
The procedure was a bit scary and to be honest a bit painful. I had an
interesting train ride to Croydon being guided like a blind person, and
eventually I began to feel a little better. The worst of the pain only
really lasted about 3 hours and suddenly I could open my eyes better and
even watch the TV without my glasses, something I had never been able
to do. The next morning I already had roughly 20/20 vision – wonderful
after wearing glasses or contact lenses since I was 2 years old. I still
can’t bear to chuck out my old faithful scratched and well worn
glasses, not because I think my eyes will get worse again but just because
it is great to be reminded every now and again what Accuvision did for
me. It was worth paying more money than other clinics, for a start I wasn’t
a borderline case with them and they really do seem to care what happens
to you afterwards. I seemed to heal quicker and have less pain than other
people that have used the usual cheaper places even though my prescription
was much higher than them. Well worth the money, I would recommend Accuvision
to any one with a higher prescription.

I have been blind in one eye since I was a child and have worn a contact
lens for the last 13 years. Obviously, this worried me incase anything
went wrong with my one 'good' eye. Accuvision were thoroughly professional
and reassuring when dealing with me. They took a good two hours on my
initial consultation and I felt total confidence in them. My vision is
now apparently better than 20:20 in my working eye and I feel like a miracle
has been performed! I would certainly recommend this clinic to anyone
else requiring treatment.

I have just had laser surgery done by the Accuvision team this week. From
start to finish I have recieved only proffessional treatment from all
members of staff there. Please rely on my words when I say this company
is very good at what they do!!! When I was reading a lot of positive reviews
about this company I decided to take a chance and go for it and I am so
glad that I did!!! Take it from me I have not worn my glasses since the
procedure and I keep thinking I have left them somewhere and I am missing
something..I was treated for short-sightedness so now everything I do
in my daily life such as driving or watching the TV is very much clearer.
When I left the clinic I could not help but notice the smallest details
around me, from the tiles on the roof tops to the leaves on the trees..My
advice to anyone is just go for it!!! My experience has been so good that
normally I would not even write a review on anything however I HAVE to
make a exception this time due to the profound impact that this has had
on my life. This is the new way forward that realy works!!!! The company
will give you all the information before the day and are always happy
to answear any questions!!! The procedure was over so quickly that I cant
believe I did not do this sooner!! A very worth wild experience I would
100% recommend ANYONE to do this!!!

The team at Accuvision are amazing. They talk you through everything until
you are happy with even the most trivial of questions you may have (in
my case I was not laughed at for asking how long before my surgery I was
allowed to have my eyelashes tinted - how vain! - its about 4 days in
case. you're interested!). They take the utmost care of you on the day,
and my surgeon Chad Rostron is awesome. Their 24 hour number is at your
disposal anytime you need reassurance. All in all, they were amazing,
and I can now see the leaves on the trees, and even into people's houses!!
It is a life changing experience, and I am glad I did it with the team
at Accuvision

I went to Accuvision having been advised by another clinic that my corneas
were too thin for normal Lasik and I wouuld need to wait for wavefront
technology which they didn't have yet. A few months later I saw Accuvision
advertising this technology and having spent ages on their website I decided
to go for a consultation at Parsons Green. I was hugely impressed with
the great care taken over this. The battery of tests I was put through
lasted nearly 2 hours and the final result was that yesthe corneas were
quite thin but they could treat my eyes. It was going to be expensive
because of this tricky prescription (£1800 per eye!) but they were
confident of a good result. I went away to think about it for a couple
of months and to make sure it could be afforded and then made the decision
to go ahead. There was no pressure from Accuvision at any stage and they
were quite comfortable with a number of extra questions from me at various
times. MY wife came with me on surgery day and the whole procedure went
exactly as described. Slightly uncomfortable perhaps but not actually
painful. Very quick and carried out by people who made me relax simply
by their professionalism and easy friendship. Keeping your eyes closed
whilst being driven across London on the way home was not something I
would recommend to anyone and at that stage I felt quite car-sick. My
suggestion would be to have the surgery in the morning and then go to
a local hotel so that you can be reasonably refreshed for the next visit
24 hours later. My experience was exactly as suggested in the literature.
Vision was substantially improved after 4 hours and really good after
24 hours. Now, some 5 months since the treatment I am just absolutely
delighted at the results. I occasionally need reading glasses for close-up
work but only indoors....if I am outside, natural daylight means no glasses
needed. My latest test at Accuvision showed better than 20/20 vision.
THe staff at Accuvision were quite superb. My first consultation was with
Joan and her blend of professionalism and Irish friendliness was just
what I needed in the way of reassurance....I probably would have chickened
out at some point but for the trust that she engendered. Incidentally
she had had the surgery herself and was a great example. Ten out of ten
Accuvision and thank you! I don't think the process could have been done
better in any way!

I have been a contact lens/spectacles wearer for over 20 years and when
I heard of laser surgery, I wondered how it would feel to live without
glasses or lenses. Booked a consultation and I was very impressed with
the overall assessment procedure. Vikash was very thorough in discussing
my eyes, the actual procedure, what to expect pre and post operation and
also in answering all my questions. I had to call the clinic twice for
more information before I finally decided to go ahead with it. My operation
involved undercorrecting one eye for reading and the other eye has perfect
vision for distance, ie monovision. It is now almost 3 months since I
had the operation and aside from having dry eyes every now and again,
everything is great. I can only thank everyone at Accuvision for all the
support they have given before, during and after the operation. If anyone
wants to ask me any question, please feel free to email me. I will be
very happy to help.

I had my eyes lasered, using wavefront guided lasik at accuvision on 02/06/02,
basically coming up 3 months ago, and little did I appreciate at that
time, that that day would be the first day of the rest of my life - with
the freedom that I had never had before in my life. for most people, being
able to see clearly is something taken for granted, for me it was a gift,
a miracle. I am 21, and had a -10 prescreiption in both eyes, to give
u some idea, I had to hold a packet of cigarettes 2 inches from my face
before i could read the "smoking kills" writing. worrying indeed.
Accuvision were nothing but kind from start to finish, and are still surpassing
themselves in the after treatment checkups. because of the severity of
my prescription, despite such amazing technology, I was told the best
that I could hope for would be 20:20, and at worst, a -1, so basically
still functional vision, which i might add, in would have been ecstatic
with. I had a checkup about a month ago, so just slightly less than 2
months post op, and I see better than 20:20 in both eyes, I have 135%
vision, meaning I see 35% better than people with so called "perfect"
vision. By using wavefront, accusvision can perfect even the slightest
of imperfections on your cornea, hence, the normal "human" imperfections
are removed, hence, you see better than a normal human would. Absolutely
amazing, I can't thank them enough, I rarely ever miss a shot on a pool
table, and can read the small print on anewspaper from 4 feet away. (you
would be amazed how handy that is) My night vision, far from having any
of the side effects, is also amazing, much better than before, I have
no side effects from the operation, and 135% vision. Even the slight problem
I had with dryness, (i have been using artifical tears) is clearing up,
I used to have to use drops at least 5-10 times per day, plus once before
bed, and once as soon as I got up, (sometimes more often) now, in the
space of 2 months, it is unusual for me to use them more than just the
once when I wake up, (and even that is lessening as time goes on). This
laser experience has totally opened up my life, I really dont even believe
it has sunk in yet, I still try and put my glasses on occasionally, then
realise! Thankyou to accuvision, You have given me a life I could only
dream about before. So go to them! theyre amazing from start to finish!
I can never thank them enough! And finally, thankyou so so much to my
grandparents, they paid for my operation as a 21st birthday and graduation
present. thankyou so, so much nan and grandad.

This is a follow up comment from my last comment posted on accuvisions
website on 21/06/2004 in which I had 20:20 in my right eye, and -0.25
in my left eye. About a month ago, I had another checkup. My sight has
improved, and from being 20:20, I now have what they call "supersight"
I have about 130% vision, which has completely amazed me, before, I was
-10 in both eyes, I could see nothing, only see colour, shapes, and movement.
I think the guy who tested my eyes this time, ( I really do apolgise,
I have forgotten your name) was amazed that far from readin the top line
which shows 20:20 vision, I could read the bottom one, which just goes
to show, that against all odds, (I was told by accuvision that because
of my short sightedness severity, that id probably only get back to 20:20
or slightly less) I have actually gone past theirs, (and my) expectations.
So thankyou so, so much accuvision. And grandad, without you, Id still
be wishing for the freedom, and vision I have now.

I had laser surgery on 10th May this year and my eyesight is still improving
everyday. I experienced excellent service from consultation, through treatement
and aftercare (thanks to Vic for being so patient!!) It has made a huge
difference to my life, I just wish I had been able to have it done sooner.
I can now fall asleep on the sofa without my contact lenses "sticking"
to my eyes and can see my alarm clock in the morning so I will have to
think of another reason for being late for work! The treatment itself
was painless and over within minutes and after one nights sleep I had
clear vision. I would recommend Accuvision to anyone - it has totally
transformed my life

They've changed my life! Made my dreams come true! Sounds corny but its
TRUE! i've (sorry got to use past tense now!) i'd worn glasses since i
was two years old, i'm mow 33 and am due to see a swimming pool for the
first time in my life in ten days! my perscription WAS +7.25, i'd been
searching for years for a clinic that could 'fix' my eyes. no one would
treat me. 'very long sighted vision can't be corrected' that's all i heard.
the last clinic i visited (recommended by a friend) said sorry we can't
do anything for you but we know a clinic that possibly can! imagine my
joy! so off i went to Fulham to the Acuvision clinic, had a few tests,
nothing that i hadn't had done before and was told there and then that,
they could treat my eyes! the worst bit of news i received was that i
had to wear my (Thick lensed 1980's style) glasses for four weeks before
my treatment! but whats four weeks out of your life? so i did it! went
back and on the 16th May 2004 I had the treatment. It was at the time,
one of the scariest experiences of my life. i've had several major operations
during my shortish life but this was the one that sent my emotions haywire!
what if it went wrong and i'd be completley blind? because my perscription
was so high and i knew no one else like me, i did get a bit over emotional
in the communial waiting area! i apologise to the guys that were in the
same day as me, i'm sure they were calm before they saw me! The proceedure
only took @20 miniutes, which includes the time spent swapping over the
equipment to the other eye. You don't feel the procedure but i found the
beginning a bit uncomfortable. (where they clamp your eyes open so you
don't blink) when i was done, i walked out to the waiting area and lost
it again- emotionally! My brother had come with me and he was looking
after my hand bag and had a strong cup of tea waiting. I saw him sat there
holding my glasses with the aftercare bag on the table beside him. I had
never been able to see my brother without wearing my glasses or lenses
and there he sat and i could see everything! I felt like a miracle had
just accured & was so happy but then i felt sad and a great sense
of loss, i could see my glasses and would never need to clean them &
put them on again! They had been with me all my life through thick &
thin i still can't throw them into that charity box! Its like i'm still
mourning a life long friend. Today is 28th July 2004 and i still wake
up with a big smile on my face - because i can see as soon as i open my
eyes! there are mornings when i still reach out for my glasses but i can
see myself doing it! its very strange! A 31 year old habbit that is going
to be pleasure to break.....Thank You Acuvision XXX

+6.00 WITH 1.75 ASTIGMATISM After wearing glasses all my life I had given
up all hope of being able to see without them. My prescription was so
complex +6.00 in both eyes with high astigmatism, no other clinic could
help. I read in the Daily Mail about a special case, the patient had +
8.00 prescription, and I was in awe of his story. I rang accuvision and
was seen within days. From the very begining the care was superb. I was
first introduced to Joan who did my initial test and confirmed that they
could indeed help. A week later I had my treatment and could see immediatley,
I had no pain or discomfort to worry about. As I am a bus driver I was
advised to take a few day off work. I am now back at work and looking
forward to seeing my friends I have made at Accuvision when I go back
for my one month post op test. This is one of the best things that has
ever happened to me. I have been given a new life.

Just the other day we were watching an interview on TV and instead of
blurring out just the person's face to protect their identity, they blurred
out the entire frame. I looked at my husband and said "That's how
everything used to look for me without my glasses!". He couldn't
believe it. He knew I had been nearsighted (-9L/-8.50R) but until then
I'd never really been able to explain to him how the world had looked
through my eyes. I used to joke that without my glasses I could only distinguish
light, colour, shape and movement. Even reading a book without my glasses
was a challenge if it was held more than about 6 or 7 inches from my face.
I was 7 years old when it was first discovered that I needed glasses and
over the last 35 years I've worn both glasses and contact lenses. Wearing
contact lenses wasn't particularly comfortable for prolonged periods of
time so I tended to only wear them for special occasions when I really
wanted to feel dressed up. Ninety-nine percent of the time I wore my glasses.
When it came to selecting new glasses, I was getting increasingly frustrated.
I had to get the ultrathin lenses which cost a fortune but even then,
ultrathin with my prescription still wasn't exactly thin and my options
were limited when it came to selecting frames. I had to select frames
that could disguise the thickness of the lenses, etc. and often this meant
selecting something a bit on the frumpy side. But even with all of this,
like so many others, I'd been raised to believe that if your vision was
acceptable with glasses, you didn't mess around with it. In the last couple
of years I'd heard about laser surgery and even knew a few people who'd
had it done. Halfheartedly I would research the available procedures from
time to time. There were things I'd felt I'd always been held back from
doing - like learning to swim properly - because I couldn't see without
my glasses and looked like a geek in the pool with my glasses. The idea
of life without glasses certainly held appeal but the idea of the surgery
made me squeamish. Furthermore I guess I really didn't think that I would
be a suitable candidate for laser surgery. Finally this spring I decided
to face the possibility and made an appointment for a consultation with
Accuvision. I'd read enough reviews and done enough research by this point
to believe that they were likely to offer me the best possibility of good
vision. I went to the appointment without expectations. I didn't have
my heart set on having it done because I didn't want to be disappointed.
The staff is very professional and friendly. Vikash thoroughly examined
my eyes - the general health of my eyes, the thickness of my corneas,
the width of my pupils, etc. - explained the risks and answered all of
my questions. Amazingly I was a good candidate on all counts. He said
that he felt with the surgery there was a 95% chance that I would have
20/20 vision or better and that in my case he felt that vision correction
was definitely for functional reasons not cosmetic ones. Then I started
to get excited! I had the surgery on May 20th. During one part of the
consultation Vik had used anesthetic drops explaining they were the same
drops used during the surgery. I didn't feel anything during that part
of the consultation and that gave me a lot of confidence about the surgery
being painless also. I was really calm about the whole thing and decided
to make it a positive experience. I have to say when they first laid me
out on the bed I kind of wished I was someplace else but the surgery is
quick and only slightly uncomfortable. In no time at all it was over.
It was important for me to keep my eyes closed as much as possible for
the first of the first day which I did but occasionally I couldn't help
sneaking a peek at the world that was now much much clearer to me. It
was amazing! At my checkup 24 hours later my vision was tested and I told
it was good enough to drive. At my one week checkup my vision was 20/20
although at that stage the contrast of objects in the distance wasn't
very sharp. Vik said this would improve and it has. Initially I had some
problems with halos on lights when driving at night but that continues
to improve. I've also got some dryness discomfort that I'm using artifical
tears for. I've been told I won't have long term problems with either
of these issues. I just had my one month checkup. My vision is 20/20.
It is really amazing! Now I need to find a good swimming teacher in the
area! Considering the advances in this technology, I believe that in future
generations laser eye surgery will be the norm and glasses will be the
exception. My advice to anyone even considering laser eye surgery - go
to Accuvison for a consultation. Let them evaluate your circumstances
and talk to you about it. I think you'll be glad you did.

When I went to visit Accuvision for my initial consultation, I was very
impressed with Vikash who took all my measurements, explained what they
can do and answered all my questions. I went away still not quite convinced
as I was worried that although the risks are low, I might be in that group.
Spoke to Vikash again to ask more questions and this time, I decided to
go ahead with the treatment for monovision. My surgery was on the 5th
July with Mr Rostron. On the day, they took some more measurements, I
asked more questions and then signed the consent form. The procedure was
painless and everyone in the room were very supportive. On the way home
in the car, I told my husband how wonderful it is to be able to read the
number plate ofthe car infront. All day, I kept my eyes closed most of
the time and made sure I put the drops every hour. My next day check went
well, my reading vision is very good but my distance is not that good.
They said this is normal as the eyes are still adjusting. Now, 3 days
later, I can say that my distance vision have improved a lot. I can only
say thank you to eveyone at Accuvision, specially Vikash, Mike and Mr
Rostron who helped made this all possible. If anyone wants to ask any
question, please email me and I will be more than happy to reply.
